iPad 2

Anyone picking one up?

I'm kinda on the fence... it looks real tempting but I was holding back for a higher res which didn't appear.

On the plus side it looks pretty nippy compared to the iPad 1 esp. in the graphics dept.

no sd card either, that is what pisses me off.

Either way I will probably buy the ipad1 (wifi 16gb). Will mostly use it to test ipad+iphone apps, I'm afraid I better go with this so to support legacy, maybe if I get the ipad2 it may be hard to test for ipad1, what do you think?

I'm not really found of apple devices, so I'm trying the minimum only for testing and deploying apps...

For stickly development purposes, I think that's a good idea Erico. I have a friend who used the iPad 2 with Artrage, which is very sluggish on the iPad 1, works like a dream on the iPad 2. I am hedging in keeping the iPad 1 though, till next year, when the new res version is almost guaranteed. It's a great time to buy an iPad one, as they have £100 knocked off them at the Apple store now. I think a couple of months from now, when the old stock has run out, the resale value of these iPads Ones will be great!

I'm getting one - probably sometime next week.

I don't have any one the first generation ones, so it's not a complete waste of money.  :D

Nice Ian,

but one thing though, I might use it as a sketch board, like you said the new one works faster.
Do you thing it's possible to make sure an app runs on ipad1 while testing on ipad2?
Think it's possible to test for iphones on the ipad 2 too?

thanks for the advices

ampos

I will give a iPhone 3G 16gb for any iPad model :D

Leginus

I agree with Erico too. I am going to go with ipad1 for backwards compatibility

Well the only problem is that the iPad 2 has some extra features that you will need to take into consideration for your executable. It's faster, has more memory and has cameras but as far as API's are concerned it's still the same and is backwardly compatible. So as long as you keep a close eye on the speed of your code and the memory requirements then it should be perfectly possible.

You can easily run iPhone apps on the iPad, it has a compatability mode, that doubles the pixels and seems to exactly match the iPhones/iPod speed on the iPad.

For an artist its a great machine, theres lots of versatile drawing apps at cheap prices.

I will probably be sticking with the iPad 1 for now though as it's sufficient for my needs at the moment. The iPad 2 is a real temptation though... Bah!  =D
