compo oh no

Kitty Hello

well, there was this 2nd Android tablet I bought for the competition.
Now, the first one got screwed up while trying to reset to factory settings, because I read that the touchscreen calibration would do better, which is pretty much so bad, that you can't even type "bad" without cursing like a sailor. So I tried to unbrick it with various firmwares that have to be installed on an internal sd card for which you had to open the device to access it. Being desperate after the 3rd firmware that didn't work, I decided to copy the one from the machine I wanted as a prize for the compo over.
The good news: the copy worked fine and the tablet is "working" as before. In fact, I'll never buy a china tablet again. Lesson learned. The touchscreen inaccuracy, the low brightness and the plastic feeling is so bad...

which brings us to the bad news.
Being very smart, I didn't want to use a screwdriver to open the 2nd device, but "suckers". Rubber circles that suck to the glass and make you able to pull it out. It worked so nice, that I might have pulled a tad too hard. Fact is, the glass is broken. You can attach a usb mouse, but you have no cursor.

The other idea was to get a palm pre as a prize, but I think every dev and his dog has one, already?

So, I think this years compo will not take place.

...which leaves me with some more time to get Android working, hopefully, and maybe get GLBasic ported to other great targets like html5 and flash. (Don't nail me on that - that's just "ideas" that might work)

1:15am - time for bed :/

That's a shame, but if it allows you the time to work on expanding GLB then that's a good thing.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you pulled the screen out :P
I came. I saw. I played.

I think android, html 5, flash and my digital toaster and sky digital box are the least you could do for breaking the tablet  :P

Oh dear, I am real sorry to hear that Gernot, nothing worse that messing something up your trying to fix. I'll remember your China Tablete advice too!

Cheers,

Ian
Cheers,

"I'm not rich enough to buy cheap stuff." is a great proverb.  :(
I've been burned too many times myself.

But I like the second part, all that flash & html5 stuff.

erico

sorry to hear that...better work on the android stuff in my opinion.

there will be other possibilities for compos this year I guess.

I have a few china gadgets my self, I kind of like a few of those,
but they sure need a looot more care then the real thing. So far I'm being lucky with my china camera for 3 years hehe.

I have also seen a lot of rubish ones, like gps, players etc.
The funniest part is going through the chinese - english (google translated) they have on the manuals.

anyway I'm sorry it turned out that way with the pads...
