3D Modeller

This it's advice for if anyone wants intro in the fantastic world of the 3D, now Nevercenter Silo has updated to 2.3 and the cool it's they have a Linux versión... For me runs but bad I only see the screen very darker, I think they will solve this in some days but seems not too much complex.

The good point of this soft, it's only a 3D modeller, it's this , it's only a modeller and it's very good thought , you have a book on explains the soft from 0 and make a couple of exercise , complex it's do a female hero , but really for people wants make 3D graphics I think it's the best tool, and ok the price it's really good , in the web cost 150E but in Steam cost 80E, the problem it's always you want use needs to call from Steam... (I think some people crash this restrictions at least with Modo I ear people did it)

Modo it's another very good tool + render, the problem in the Steam version it's the cheaper, the guys of modo cut a lot of things very basic like the formats to export, I think you only can export to dota2 , I think it's a game multiplayer.

Sorry Mentalthink - I've moved this from the topic you originally posted in.

That topic is for FREE productivity apps, not commercial products.
I came. I saw. I played.

Nice ones Mental!
I didn´t know about Silo...its retopology tools look really slick. :good:

mentalthink

Don't Worry Ian, but I rebenber someone in some post put a lot of pay applications.. Don't worry I think only Erico will read the notice  =D =D

Yes Erico for retopology works fine, but if you want a very good "retopolizer" use Coat 3D, have a mode it's practicallly automatic, you don't have to do nothing, and it's hyperfaster make retopology manually.... Now in Cinema they put the PolyPencil tool, awesome you paint polys and join them but all very easy preactically don't need to do nothing...

Test coat 3D, really it's awesome soft and it's cheaper the Educational version, and it's similar to here, I buy the version 3 and now we are in the 4.1 and I don't pay nothing more.

erico

I did try coat a long ago, I don´t know about the updates, will take a look.
Lately there isen´t much work going on my side in 3d, and what is out as work won´t cover costs of software and hardware,
neither my time researching them.

But I will look at it eventually for sure. :good:

Hemlos

Sup sup!
Are you spreading viruses again? lol j/k

Im not knocking the 3d model program, however, Steam is a crutch.
They need to go it on thier own imo....as of now i have no interest in that particular program.

I am looking for a decent free or otherwise one tho...especially one that can make stuff for glbasic.

You two are really creative, do you happen to have any other suggestions/recommendations relating to modelling apps?
Im not a richie rich, so 3d studio max, maya, and lightwave are all out of the question.

You have the standard Blender, which will do amazing stuff.
There are many others, including online ones.

But Blender I know can export an obj that GLB likes.

mentalthink

You have 2 choices hemlos, come to live in Spain and you can download all internet  =D =D =D (Bad option)

Or how says Erico use Blender, I used 3ds max for 16 years, but I'm very tired about an app cost 1.000.000 ptas, crash when it wants.... Blender it's for sure the best Open Source and another great tool between Maya,Max, LW, Cinema4D and totally free... and another good point for you, you like the maths in 3D (me too, but I don't have any idea about maths), you can see the code from 0 to the end, and learn a lot...

Another good point it's the python Script, you can do awesome things, and it's extremelly good explained
I use Blender like main 3D app, the modeler it's very robuts and make things another softs don't makes, in example Blende have an internal render called CYcles, it's unbiased render, this means you can do renders like photos, very very accurate to the reality, but the good point here, it's you can make an Unwrap, this for videogames, permet make enviorements very real.

Take a look this tutorial ant you see the quality... (take a look Erico, too).
http://www.blenderguru.com/tutorials/introduction-baking-cycles/#.U-9pnNZEHmE

You will see an animated gif, it's good quality but really you don't see the realtime this manner, download the scene and you can test the powerfull of Cycles and Unwrap.

Ok not only this it's the good point of blender.... In example I'm learning to animated Characters , and here it's really more easy than in 3ds max and more than Cinema .

The only point against GLbasic, now, it's the exporter, for new versions don't works, in the 2.5 I think worked, but Blender changes python version and now we have to do a new exporter, I think can be difficult, but for now I don't have too much about scripting, and really I don't understand how make the .DDA format, OK Gernnot explains it in a Post, but I can't done I try a couple of times from cinema but with out success.

Hemlos if you need info about another things 3D, youtube channels for learn, webs, books  or where donwload free or cheaper models and textures , please comment me or Erico, sure we can help you in this part, and if you don't understand how to do something please comment, model in 3D it's only practice and when you discover cut edges practically you have learned the 80% of the tricks for modelling.

Regards.

Hemlos

Thank you that is great info  :booze:

Also, learn one 3d program and you pretty much can get away with any other.
+1 for everything Mental said, Blender is awesome plus:

...lots of world edge experimental unknown stuff going on, the first city generator I ever saw in life came from blender for exemple.
...powerful phisics bullet stuff.
...superb fluid.
...you can freeze all that and use inside GLB if you must.

It also has a GAME mode, so you can test some stuff on a game environment before you push it to GLB.

Really, there is nowhere to go as complete and powerfull as blender.
It is a bit hard to learn if you are a complete noob, but I´m sure it is not your case and you will see a lot of what you already know inside it straight away or disguised with a different name.

Hemlos

I know how to use a few 3d modellers....i must say; blender is a monster to learn. A very high learning curve imo.
There was a time when Anim8or was able to export file that glbasic liked to convert, but those days are long gone.

I didn´t know there was this level of baking in Blender, but I have been using same technique in Lightwave for the past 10 years.
Only real problem is that it may take ages to render a complex scene for that and that you really need a lot of textures.

But it is awesome to make a realtime 3d walkthrough inside, let´s say, a house or apartment under pre construction.

Yep Hemlos, I didn´t wanna say that, but it is true, Blender is really hard and the UI is a mess of complexity.
I think I stumbled into a few 3d modellers in html5 and they were pretty easier, could be a solution.
You might also want to look at Skeatchup too.

Erico the difference in unwrappint texture in Blender it's for the engine Cycles, ok LW have a very good render engine, but don't it's unbiased, the unbiased render are like Maxwell, fry render or Octane.... the renders are fotos and you practically don't have to setu any light all it's very easy... the good of Cycles it's very quick and you can unwrap, the others engine I comment can't do it, really I don't know the reason... (Perhaps now some engine can do a unwrap). This it's the main and important thing with CYcles, you can have a photorealism in a 3D scenario.

Hemlos don't be scary with Blender, if you put training Blender in Youtube , you will find thousands of people explaining it from 0 in any language, ok English it's the most common the 90% of tutos are in English.

All it's very ordened , when you begin perhaps see all complex , after a week using it, and focus attention in the menues you will remind on it's each menu.

If you want some steps for learning 3D, ok it's a lot of time, but look at me, when I come to Glbasic I don't know nothing, and ok I'm not programmer but I do thing works and I don't learn in any place only here and looking C++ and antoher things, only it's take 1 hour at day or the time you can, bit a bit and then if you want we speak in 1 year forward, you will see all you learn.

1 first learn how move in the program, make viewports, delete it, how put simple materials, where are the light etc.
2. try to model thngs, begin with simple objetcs, the better way for modelling always it's box modelling, you begin with a Box and then cutting edges, bevel, and a couple of more commands you can do anything (it's the same like programming, you don't use all the commands, perhaps uses the 30 or 40% or commands inn GlBasic, and for something special get another command)
3.Learn the lighting, this it's really the most important, and for me the more funny part of 3D, lights...
4.Texturing , Blender have another good point you can paint over the 3D meshes and don't need to use another soft, like coat 3d or Cinema 4d
5. Learn to animate characters , ok... I'm in this point but thing equal you have libraries for textures, sounds and models, you have libraries for animated character, dog, people, soldier, monster,
I don't put because the library it's for pay perhaps Ian have to lock the post... If anyone need the name of the library don't it's expensive less than 100E and thousand of MOCAP files, comment me.. sure in the games can help a lot.

And how I said if you need something here I am.... I know in the forum have an user meets Blender more better than me... I'm not sure if he is Kanonet... but I remind with a project of a circuit cars we comment in the forum (finally I think the project was forget) the user make a very very good model textured...

erico

yep, there was a GLB racer project going on that was really awesome on visuals and car physics :good:.

I've been a big fan Fragmotion for many years, it does animation, modelling, texturing, scripting and it's import/export options are focused on game models. It's pretty cheap too.
