GIMP is one of the best(essential) thing you can have to manipulate image.

GAP for gimp is the best free after effects/ post processing anim you can get...

Dr Petter´s animation tool CHERRY BRUSH is wonderful for animation, needs a tablet:

Thanks for putting together that excellent list  :) A couple of things there I didn't know about that I'm going to find handy in the future.

Just wanted to say that I love Grafx2 for being compatible with forgotten Amiga and Atari ST file formats. It can also deal with bit-planes in the old 16-bit ways. Very useful for complex ripping of old game graphics!
