Idea for a compo

Hi

I ordered 2 cool 7" Android tablets. How about giving one away for next weekend's LD48 competition among the entries done with GLB?

Am I too late to anounce it?

Why not make it an official Summer GLB compo, rather than for LD?
I came. I saw. I played.

I believe going the LD48 way can do GLBasic some promotion, while a summer local comp may have more deadline enough to also promote it a good deal. LD48 may be a bit over the newbie skills. A local comp may also bring new heads to the forum and so engross our lines. I really don´t know.

A GLBasic comp of some sort thought must come out cause it is a great thing.

I wonder what others think about it.

The first GLBasic/GP2X comp brought me to GLB from being a loyal PlayBASIC and BlitzMax user.

As long as it's advertised well, potential users will come from far and wide.
I came. I saw. I played.

I agree.

The GLBASIC BOARD GAME competition is what brought me here too, but I didn´t came by advertise.
I was researching basic languages (like I have been doing since AMOS with no success), got to GLB page. Enjoyed its features, downloaded demo and got into the forum.

The comp showed up and it seemed to me a great opportunity to try put something up to see if GLB would fit my needs.
I did fit, but my entry never got finished, had to surprisingly move to a new house on the last weeks of it and it all got spoiled on my end. Never the less, the game was/is fully functional and that was my primary objective, I have been around ever since.

It's a great little prize. If I were a quicker programmer I'd have a go myself.  :good:
Cheers,

Ian.

I might have to really consider entering this time.

Ok now I will take this to note locally that GLB comps in general were very cool and even moderators posting exciting challenges. There really should still be an annual one like the good 'ol days but I understand that prize funding and formally running it was the issue, but it is certainly one of GLB's best marketing exposure methods.

Very nice... Idea!!!  :nw: :nw:

I would have a proposal to make:
this is a community of developers who use glbasic, why instead of the usual game  we do a software based on the best function or functions library?
Where he'll reward whoever wrote the best algorithm, well commented, and so on?

I agree with matchy, GLB compos sure brings people on board.
LD is nice, but a bit rushed IMHO, might scare new users (and me).

Neurox´s idea is great, but again, IMHO it is more for the skilled ones.
But the outcomes could benefit everyone.

A standard GLB game comp, for me, is the best call.
I think the theme is something that has to be really taken with care.

I entered the GLBasic world in the board games competition, testing the capacities of the language. And it was a great discover. I prefer making a different contest for GLB users, with more time and we'll see a bunch of new games and users. A competition of 3D games can be cool.

I've never seen excitement as much when a GLB comp is announced and it's been too long since then.  :'(

Also, the comps were on pre app era were for fun, where there wasn't so much of a push direction to produce commercial apps, which I think even that idea crept in recently into a comp but LD have kept strong with what it is. I just feel that the fun of programmers competing and producing content based on a common criteria is the antidote for this.
;)
Just to be clear, things like libraries and functions were/are challenges not competitions (as in the old forum title). There are many ideas and requests to start them as long as there is some sort of process and regulation. I feel that big prizes or no prizes was the issue in the past so an example would be for me to personally offer GLB notepads and stuff to winners and handle the shipping and all but this may not be the ideal process for others and staff. ;/
