video codecs - capture with Camstudio

Hi,

I installed camstudio 2.6 on my Win7 x64 box. But from the video encoder box I only see the legendary ones (1997) like cinepack and Microsoft Vider 1.0.

I installed the ffdshow encoders for both, x86 and x64 without effect. Also the Camstudio 1.4 lossless codec won't show up.

Can someone help me? Basically I think I want a video of high quality compatible with Windows Live Movie Maker.

I second FRAPS. It's certainly the best I've used. Smoother and faster than CamTasia, however it's not free. It's not that expensive though.

a true shame, but fraps seems to work instantly. 27,- EUR instead of hours trying to get freeware running.

virtualdub can do a lot, take a look.
It will also work out all codecs you may have installed.

take a look at the capture menu, see if you have a capture window or desktop there.
set audio and video for full uncompressed AVI pcm 48 16bits.

it will drink you hd of course.

after such you can get this midia and edit and use you final codec.

if you want some special effects into it, like after effects, you can install gimp+gap, it´s about the same stuff.

I hope this helps, it has been a while I don´t mess with virtual dub...

did you give virtual dub a try kitty?

go to capture AVI, on device, chose desktop or something similar, set the resolution for what you want and give a go.

virtual dub runs as 64bit app, it should be fine to set resources to it and the application so no slowdown.

in case you already went with a diferent solution, yeas fraps is the easiest if you want no trouble, you can still use dub to codec you files to monstruosly small sizes and perfect quality.

Yes. Thing is - I made a video with a webcam from me using SEUCK on a touchscreen. But the quality is so bad, that I wanted to make some cut scened where I record the very same action directly from the PC screen and cut the scenes together to get some half-decent quality video.

I'm still a bit confused (comes with age I hear  ). You mention a Touchscreen which I presume could mean your main PC screen or an external device (iPod/iPad for example). I took it as an external device hence why you used a Webcam, unless you was pointing it at your PC screen.

If it is external then a Camcorder or such (Some digicams have good video recording but varies a lot) is the best option as basically that's what they are designed for. If you don't have one ask if a friend does & try to borrow it  . One other point, as important lighting is in a 3D scene the same applies in real life, crap lighting results in crap video (unless that's the effect you are after).

Before I get flamed by people saying "My phone does excellent video" etc there is a saying "The right tool for the right job", mobile phones while great & keep getting better can not compete with a Camcorder for quality. The fact that the lens is 2mm on a phone  compared to 20mm+ on the Camcorder is a subtle clue.

If it is screen recording then I can only recommend FRAPS really. I have tried numerous screen recorders with varying degrees of success. Some are great for creating training videos where FPS is not really an issue, while others have been either unstable or lack the features (and quality) that FRAPS provides.

Do you mean a Video Editor?¿, for me the best it´s Magix Video Editor, it´s cost about 60€, and for me it´s too much better than premiere, and it´s hyper-easy.

I just had a look & considering what was used to record it was watch-able. One of the problems with that clip was because you had the lights low so as to make the screen stand out more the big dark background around the touchscreen screws up the light balance on the phone as it tries to work out light/dark. Using a camcorder will sort that out as you can specify where the auto-exposure (or even set it manually) should take its readings from. webcams/phones then do drop FPS a lot when there is a lot of darkness.

You could try with your iphone again but either move it nearer so the tablet fills the frame more, or have some light in the background so there is not such a huge contrast drop across the frame.
