You a professional game programmer?

bubbaman83

hey! Good deal! Modding games! That's a great idea! How the heck do I do that?

Kitty Hello

mikiex

Artist, mainly special effects + technical art... Im not a good programmer :(

Kitty Hello

Yes. Google for "halflife modding" or something

bubbaman83

ok....so google it...BTW Gernot, are you the one who made the "Bruce Lee" game tutorial?

Kitty Hello

Yeah. Did that - in real time. Recording, Cutting, Publishing all in 40 something minutes... That's why it's so crappy.

bubbaman83

I thought it was pretty good. Helps a lot! Oh yeah...found out that it's just the computer I'm using that messed up GLBasic....I'll try again when school starts.

bubbaman83

We're getting all new PCs this year so that'll help

bubbaman83

wow...this thread ha sbeen dead for awhile now hasn't it? Anyway, thought I outta let you know that 7 months later....I'm still going through with thsi project. I got voice actors, artists, music peoples and a ton of other shweet stuff...15 now and have still made very little headway into coding in C++ I made a pretty basic Text Adventure though.... (Basic meaning I told you what was happening, gave you four choices, you pick and follow the storyline from there) Although as far as I can remember...no matter which you chose, it ultimately lead to your death....but that's just the kind of person I am. I'm taking a computer programming class next semester and a web design class (although that has nothing to do with the game, it's right before my programming class which is in the same room so I may get extra stuff done). So, do you all think I can do it? I'd appreciate help from anybody who wants to! BTW, I have Windows XP both at the library and the school so it should be fairly consistant...at least in the versions of stuff I use. I have dev-C++ for my compiler or whatever...if that helps anyone... and I have Audacity for music editing.

You have to learn LOGIC to be able to comprehend and build function in ANY programing language.

Taking a webdesign class wont help with that, but it might help with structure and graphics.
C++ class might help, but you better really really study the way the logic works.
When you figgure that part out then youll be successful with most languages, and you wont be asking questions like "how do i do it all?"  and "tell me everything", these things cant be just explained, you have to learn it all, trial and error on your own.

Yes i think you can do it, but not without a fully comprehensible understanding of logical functions...if you only just recently started with your first program(this year?), i have bad news, it could take years to figgure everything out that you need to know to make your game work on a profesional level.

Furthermore, if youre building a game using nintendos trademarks or names, nintendo can legally take action with the courts and take any or all profits(or worse, more money) and force you to cease doing so...namely jail, that would be a crappy situation.

Before you waste your time making a nintendo game for a profit, get a contract from nintendo.
Work as a game contractor and you might not waste half your life building something for nothing. Get your contracts before you ever begin, or its over before you start.

ps if you dont know what a mod is, let me explain and show..
A mod is an addon to a preexisting game. This is a good place to start learning how to manipulate sounds and graphics. Some games even allow you to script in logic (like star wars jediknight)

Here is a webpage i made for Microsofts "Combat Flight Simulator 2" mods which has altered maps, a texture generator for models( i built this with dIngs(pre-glbasic) a few years ago) flight models for different objects and 3d addons, i even added star wars ships to it lol!:
pps. im not sure why but the texture genrator freezes on windows xp2, it worked fine with windows 98 tho...made it back in 2001, however with xp, you can just ctrl-alt-del to close the program and then look in the directory "textures" and youll find it there....i think im going to make a newer version using the latest and greatest glbasic to recreate it...it works pretty good and makes nice fresh textures.

Bing ChatGpt is pretty smart :O

Okay, well I am starting to understand basic logic type stuff if you mean loops, Ifs, Thens, Whiles, that kinda stuff. Also, the web design class was because I own a website...well, not reall own, it's freewebs...ANyway, it's in no way related to anything Nintendo...or any other company for that matter has out yet. I learned awhile ago what modding is although I've never actually tried it. Thanks for the extra info! I made that basic program about...July I think? anyway, I've been busy writing up storyline and dialogue, character designs, that kinda stuff, so I haven't touched even HTML for awhile, let alone C++...so I've probably lost any form of skill or knowledge of any of it. So I gotta take that up again. Well, time to get back to work, seeya'll later!

bubbaman83

Once again, it's been awhile. I found out that the computer programming class was in Visual Basic...that was sort of a disappointment although I still enjoy the class and the program. I'm also busy building my own PC right now so I don't have to rely on these school computers or the public library. Uhh lesse, what else's been going on? Oh yeah...I wa spart of a game dev team, but we disbanded when one of the guys ended up having to code everything while everyone else just made empty promises to help sooner or later. I've taken up HTML again and was messing around with C++ but haven't done anything serious in awhile. The game I was planning is still there, but it's on the backburners for now. Low priority compared to other shtuff I have going on...anyway, how have you all been? I have admin rights at the library now so I'm probably going to use GLBasic for awhile, just to see what it's like. Talk to you all later, teachers coming around!

bubbaman83

Hey...hey guys...guess who's back? Wow...it's been....a looong time since I've been here. It looks all shiny and new now. Anyway, keeping updates with the age thing, I'm 18 now, scrapped this idea about 2 weeks after my last post, and am now actually thinking of being a graphic designer. I have my own laptop now, so when I do, on a whim, decide to do some game programming, I don't have to worry about admin rights, getting banned from libraries, etc. Anyway, My friends and I are entering a contest in our town for something like $300 each for a small game design. We're just thinking of a short but funny satirical dating-sim game. It'll be loaded with stuff like STDs crazy psycho ex-girlfriends, the like. I completely forgot what GLBasic was like, so I'm probably gonna be downloading that later today, just to try to get a feel for it. Oh, and I'm sorry I completely failed on the commercial series. Never found a suitable camera...sorry. Anyway, how've you all been?

Kitty Hello

Hi bubba, nice that you're back.
