domain + server

I would like to buy a domain to put up an indie studio and probably some hosting space...
I can get a .br domain around here, but I wish for something more international, like a simple .net one.

what are your experiences on that?

Kitty Hello

Here in Germany, that's pretty easy. You pick any weboster and they offer you any domains, except foreign country ones. (no GLBas.ic e.g.)

Schranz0r

yes, use .net or .com

the german .de is cheep with 4 Euro / year :P
.com is 7 Euro / year

webhoster:
why no Virtual personal server(VPS), you just need a domain and install LAMPP to setup your server.

For me the better and more serious enterprise it´s one and one, here in Spain it´s one and one.es but it´s genuine from Deutschland.

For me it´s the better service to this date, they know how make well the things.

Thanks guys, I´m going for a .ORG one.

There are so many hosting/domains companies out there with different prices that it does scare a bit.
Here in Brazil hosting can be done by UOL or LOCALWEB, they are quality ones, there are tons others, but they fail a lot.

I was wondering about godady too.

Running my own? Could be interesting but I´m quite new on this front, might take too much time to get my ways around...but it´s tempting.

decisions decisions

I am at a spanish one called "más barato imposible" (impossible more cheap), www.mbi.com They accept paypal also.

If you are interested, I have discount codes.

You dont need to have it on Brazil, you can contract with any hoster. In fact, I have some domains in a US site and the host with them.

mentalthink

Ampos for me, appears a Real Estate enterprise... whit your link, are you sure it´s this?¿.

If you calculate the relative costs, including what you think the value of different hosting services are worth to you personally, then the decision will make itself in the numbers. For opinions on different web hosts you'll probably find one or two IT technie review sites that are resilient to interference from corporate PR.

In my experience the more expensive, well reputed and longer established hosting services are definitely more reliable than cheap hosting and usually easier to use with far more features available. However, cheap hosting can be as good, if you're lucky and pick a diamond in the rough. Just be cautious in any case. Keep a regular back up of your content for easy moving and keep your domain names registered with a separate business. If things go wrong it can be quick and painless to move to another host.

Thanks everyone, special thanks to wampus advice :)

I wanna make sure the domain is mine, and I´m a little worried about places selling server +domain, I wonder if at the end they are truly yours.
Brazilian domains are monopolized by registro.br

At least I know I buy something from a 'secure' place.
But they don´t have the domain I want.

Is there such service by the US or UK or SPAIN? who deals that? I wish I could get to the domain without middle people... :(

I must have this going through this weekend, so... wish me luck :booze:

ps:. I understand this has been asked before, but since things evolve, I though to ask again for the most updated info.
ps2:. up there I recomended UOL here in brasil, forget it, it seems they can´t handle, charge half deliver nothing. LOCAWEB is the only one around here, pricy, but they deliver.

I registered my domains with directnic.com and juxt configured it so tye dns points to mzsbarstoimposible

I´ll be researching all advices through this weekend.

Other then domain, the server services must accept the likes of  http://www.fastspring.com/

I´m not sure fast spring is the best thing for selling pc/mac/linux games and app,
but I read last year about an indie and checking further he uses it and it seems a go.

any thoughts on that?

Whathever happens, this weekend will settle...

Hatonastick

I'm a .org.au :)  My domain though is through the same company that hosts my web and mail servers.

Hi Ocean, thanks for the advice, as I want my products available to mainly europe and eua, it makes no sense hosting this in brasil. I should host it where it is more accessible to the majority of final consumers...

Considering EUA and Europa, and that my distributor will probably be at california...
Which are the best hosting services on these countries? I know in brasil the only ´good´one is locaweb, and they charge 20$ per month.

Any experience on that?

I already got the domain, no org or net ...I had to go with .com.br
.net in brasil requires a gov consecion, .org is for non profitable stuff.

Thanks a lot everyone for the help. I´m working to turn this out good.

Hatonastick

Yeah .org is for non-profit here too, I just so happen to have the right sort of BSB number...  Course it means I better register another one if I'm going to start selling programs.  Hrm.
