It would depend on whether he updated his machine or not - and how old it is.

No-one else has come across the problem, even running multiple times and over long periods, and thus would be the most likely explanation.

Another bit of information :

On some CPUs, QueryPerformanceCounter() reads the CPU clocks, which causes it to be broken on speedstep CPUs. There's a patch you can download for AMD processors that fixes that.
