Sorry for the delay, I had a problem with my old pc (probably because of this damn heatwave :rant:) and at my job, so I have not started this demo yet  :(

For this demo, I hesitated between doing a mini game (like a level of Mario64-like or Quake-like) or just a demonstration suite.
But after thinking, I think I'm going to do a mix of both, I'm going to make a character that will walk from one room to another and in each room there will be a demonstration in 3D.

For 2D, I think I'll leave that to someone else because I don't have enough time.

What do you think of this idea Erico?

I think it's time to do a demo worthy of the name to show the power of this language (with wrapper or not).
I will work there.

Gernot what is that?
It's awesome!

I have always wanted to do a RTS and I too had made a prototype (a long time ago), so if you need help to solve a particular problem, don't hesitate to ask JohnnyB.

With INLINE functions there is no real limit to GLBasic.

By cons, if you don't use INLINE, you will be a little more limited (especially in 3D), but you will be sure that your code is 100% portable.

Without INLINE functions, with a lot of work and talent, you can make a "Warcraft 2" with GLB, to make a "Supreme Commander", you will have problems with 3D (but it is not impossible, you will probably a retro rendering but that may please many people).

In summary, with or without, you will have no limit for a good game logic in real time and therefore a good AI (only the limit of your work and your talent).
For all that is calculation, once compiled, GLBasic is really fast (unlike the AGK-Basic which is interpreted and poorly optimized).

If we have to program them, it means they are missing.
I know something about it because I programmed it for one of my 3D games (and it was not so easy). In addition, it must be fast and multi-platform.
My routine was not 100% complete but was sufficient at the time.

Good Luck Hemlos !  =D ;)

Ah ok, I understand.
The best thing to do would be to create a wrapper for a library of sounds like, because it's a cross-platform library.

I, again, am not good at that kind of stuff.
:D Me too ! (I laugh but it's a big problem in my job :sick:)

Hi gp2xboyuk,

Why do you need this (old) library?
The standard audio functions of GLBasic are now sufficient (only 3D is missing).
You can play wav, ogg, midi, mp3, ... and of course, multiplatform, not like this library.

Woah!, I just realized that it's my message with Obama's "Can you do it? ... Yes, you can!!!" that made me go from "Mr. Polyvector" to "Dr. Type" :D
It's cool!  :good:

In fact, I didn't think of a revolutionary game, but rather a classic game like Shoot 'em up, Platform, Beat' em up, etc ...
I could have started creating a prototype that I would call version 0.1 and whenever someone improves / adds code, graphics or sound, we increase the version by quoting the name of the person.
A bit in this style:

SHMUP_V0_1_0.ZIP  ----> Snoopy    : Prototype
SHMUP_V0_2_0.ZIP  ----> MrPlow    : Code improvement / addition
SHMUP_V0_2_5.ZIP  ----> Snoopy    : Minor graphics improvement / addition (a 0.5 addition = minor improvement or addition)
SHMUP_V0_3_0.ZIP  ----> Someone : Sound improvement / addition

It's just an example.
In this way the source code can also be used as a tutorial.

But, sell them and divide up the loot  =D
:D ... Everything is free of course ;)
As I said, it would not be a revolutionary game, but just a classic that I hope well done and fun.

In short, it's an idea but it's true that it's not easy to put in place :(

I have an idea (the others: "Oh my god ! Snoopy has again an idea" :D)

Why not program an open source game all together that would be offered for free on Steam with GLB?
This game would mix 2D and 3D so that all the talents here (and they are numerous) can do what they want. No?

only question is how fast console window can be refreshed, and some functions to print at selected X,Y position would be also usefully.

That shouldn't be your problem... every developer have to find a way by himself to fix this issue  :D
Nothing better to motivate a programmer ;)

At first, I didn't think of a console demo only in ASCII, but why not, the challenge can be very interesting.
So, you're right Dreamerman, it's a lot harder to find good ideas with only ASCII  O_O

@WPShadow - Yes 6 weeks is good I think.
But when will this poll be finished? (I really have a hard time choosing), I hope you leave a message 24 hours before the closing of this poll.
