Steam OS has been announced today...

The Steam Box hardware will be announced on Wednesday, with the release titles announced on Friday.
Good news for this new OS is that it will be released free and will also run on most PC hardware. This is basically a Linux based console centricly designed OS. So this is aimed to compete with the big 3, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony but give the PC a better chance to enter the living room console games market.
Good luck to them, competition is good for us.
I think in some years Linux will be a great percent of the house market, and M$ begins his declive. I'm not sure 100 % but preactically all devices running with some linux, and today all it's tablets and mobiles devices... really the percentage using 100% M$ in a same day have to be ridiculous.
I suposse when games runs very petty with Linux all begins to change.
About Apple I read , if they don't launch another aparell like iPad, practically they are dead, computers only are the 3% of all they sell.Well iPad if was not a device else a enterprose will be the 4th enterprise in the World. :O
There's been a lot of conjecture whether the Steam Box will just be a reference design or actual hardware. Either way is fine by me. The O.S. also allows for NVidia Shield like type PC game streaming, this would require some sort of custom streaming hardware to operate properly or a heavy duty GPU, so I will be interested to see how this is worked into the hardware design.
I hope to run our GLB projects on new Steam hardware... =D
its linux based, so its should been possible to tryout. im have never tested glbasic with Linux at all.
Would depend on what would be needed to a) get it running and b) into the Steam Store...
