Update:
Dear GL Basic Community,
I proudly present X Void a retro Jump N' Run scroller in an open world full of shortcuts and secrets. At the beginning you can only jump, run and shoot. Later powerups include a splitterbomb, grappler, doublejump, spacejump, energy tanks and rockets. There are two end bosses and one of them gives you an upgrade for your standard shot. What began as a small project resulted in a complexe game taking hundreds of hours to draw every sprite, create every sound and do all the programming. After showing the game to a few friends I have decided to present it to the community.
You can play with keyboard or joypad and customize the controls. The game has a save function, a map system and an ingame counter for speedrunners. I was inspired by my all time favourite games Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid. I have always been a huge fan of retro games in general.
The game is close to completion. I am working on the overall balancing at the moment. If you like the game please spread the word and help me to release it by voting on steam.

I say yes at Steam, and thanks I don't know can be publish the game into Steam...
I like a lot the video and the game, how I told in the Steam comments... I think the music a bit better of with a more music more quick, but I love your game... the graphics style it's simple but 8 bits it's simply awesome... I rebmeber a lot to chelnov...
I hope you can sell it in steam and you have a lot of buyers... the game it's very very nice...
Regards,
Is this coded in GLBasic? If not this should be moved to the Off Topic section. Announcements should be for GLBasic projects only. Please confirm, or I'll move this anyway.
But back to topic, it's very definite Metroid game and that's no bad thing! =D
The comments on Steam are pretty critical, and I don't necessarily agree with them, but you could learn a lot about polish by watching this vid -
:)
its written in GLB!

Excellent.
You've got one guaranteed sale here if it makes it onto the store. :)
thank you guys for the feedback, I can confirm that the program was written in GLBasic. The motion fx thing is a very nice thing, it freshes things up without drawing so much. i see that the comments on steam are quite critical, what I do not understand that I have more than 1000 votes on steam within 1 day, but my video on youtube has only 30 clicks.
X Void is my first program and my first programming experience in general. I started 4 weeks ago after watching a youtube turorial. However, I am very happy with the result and what I have learned. It was always a dream from me to know how computers work and how programs are done, but I didnt study IT or anything related and just recently I had the chance to afford some time into this.
I understand that there are many haters and high expectations in terms of graphics for new games. My drawing skills are aweful unfortunately :S At the moment I am not sure if I can continue with the game. Probably need to calm down a few days after not leaving the house for almost a month :)
Don“t worry, gfx can be simple, and simple gfx are the best ;)
That is nice project you did there and striving steam lines is just awesome! :good:
How say Erico don't worry about graphics, a game can have a really nice graphics and be absolutely bored...
I play to ZX games more funny than in PC whit very cool GFX sounds physics, and what do you want...
Your game it's a very nice game, and if it's your first time programming and making games... a think it's an admirable work.. :good:
Looks good and I like it but the music and sound is too retro for the graphics.

You only have 4 post counts on this forum. ;)
Its your first game, so its a nice and very good work you have been done, and have a nice Metroid (as well Turrican). Howover Steam Games often require some very special before its got granted. Im are not sure on this game (even its a nice 8 bit take)? Fluffy was a another glbasic game failed to grant on Steam.
But if the game should failed to get into the steam, do a iPad version of it! Im thinks iPad version would been very great, and even more great if you add iCade support. Im like this kind of games, which can uses with iCade controllers on iPad. So dont hold you back here.
Oh, Yes even the graphics is simple, that dont meant the graphics/game is bad. Im thinks VVVVVV is a great example: Here the graphics is very styled simple, but gameplay is great, well designed, the 8bit music here is insane great, and even have a nice story.
Hi ProNerd,
take a look at these posts:

There are other posts on both subjects around the forum that can help you up.
What I have to say, and that is my personal opinion, is that you have done a great feat there with that game:
- Gameplay looks ace to me, controls and playability wise. I take that is the hardest part to come up with (and in single month!! :o).
- I just love the bionic commando grappling hook. :-*
- The art, altough nice, requires an unique style. It can be simple, no need for fancy stuff, but I feel you could benefit a lot on this front if STEAM is your primary target.
- Your game seems to have a lot of content, and that is great! Bosses and many levels and so on!
Like people said before, STEAM has a high standard for things and is a tough store to get into (if not the toughest one).
Cheers!
edit: Other than reminding me of the atomic runner(chelnov) like mental said, it also reminds me of thexder and h.e.r.o. :good:
Thank you once more guys, this is a really nice community I appreciate your help
Have been working on this gfx thing a little bit, its amazing how it makes things "juicier". :D
Great! Lots of blooood! :good:
Gore :D, nice splat effect, so there was something polish missing.
That kind of polishing works.
Thank you once again guys for all the comments. I have uploaded a new video (see edit of my first post).
Amongst all the things you can see and hear I have also included deWitters famous game loop code. Its amazing. Unfornunately my PC is slow and I can only record videos in 30 fps, so you cant see the effect of it in the video.
I am still having problemes with walking down a slope (sometimes he charachter walks not smoothly) and landing on a platform that currently moves down (charachter will stop for millisecond and only than land, so there is a minor delay). hope to fix this soon. I have some example codes even in glbasic, but my engine works very different so I couldnt include it that easy.
Lets see what steam community now thinks about this :D
Impressive.

:-[ First program? Most people's first program accomplishes little more than not crashing, if they're lucky.
