Check this out, PetitComputer is a sort of virtual machine for the Nintendo DSi which is available on Nintendo DSiWare. It has been available for Japan market since March 2nd 2011 and since last week also for the US. No official European release as of yet.. :doubt:

It's a virtual 1980s homecomputer with its own BASIC programming language, so it's very similar to ZX-Spectrum, MSX, C64 etc. The cool thing is that users can exchange programs they've created via WiFi or via QR codes. Japanese users have already made all kinds of new games with it, just check the many youtube videos (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=petitcom). Someone should make a GLBasic version of this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ2kqBt0pZk) :D
WOW!
I want!!!!!!
Hopefully they'll release it in Europe, would be great fun to tinker with
There's also third party software to develop on your desktop

Actually there's a pretty elaborate Basic on the Android Market at the moment

From what i read you can make your games into an apk, not sure how.
But it looks like it has a lot of features

How about basic of the Atari VCS, Bataribasic ( http://bataribasic.com/ ) :D
Cant really understand the reason for writing a compiler for the 2600 - do people still (want to) program it ?
I think it's just a case of a coder "testing his metal" but there is still the odd custom cartridge released for the VCS. Here's Halo for the 2600 for example, http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/166916-halo-for-the-2600-released-at-cge-download-the-game-here/ :S

He he he he.... Halo..... LOL... good snapshot on link
;D
I wonder all this latest movement into oldschool languages and changes into education into computing to the young has anything to do in getting people back into it as it were on the 70 80s?
I mean, it seems from mid 90 till today, all that info is retained into a generation and such knowledge is not actually renewing itself, so causing a lack of people to work this out. What do you guys thing of it?
I am not sure Erico, I think it's a bit of both, I still to this day do a little Z80 on a CPC emulator for fun but I think other programmers enjoy the low BIOS only level hardware access that these early systems provide. It's tough but rewarding if your interest is sparked.
Unboxing my old ZX !!!!
;) :D
I'd love to go back to Z80 on CPC. I have too many ideas and too little time as it is. :(
Z80 hey? I just dusted off a stored microprofessor z80 that I used in college and have been thinking about getting back in to it.

If you don't know about it already Ian, I heartily recommend WinApe CPC Emulator ( http://www.winape.net/features.jsp ) It's almost a complete CPC dev environment, with built in Z80 Assembler (Maxam), disassembler, debugger, memory dump, graphic dump etc. a true work of art IMHO.
From an email I received from the Petit Computer guys regarding release in Europe/Australia:
QuoteThank you for your message.
Now, we try to release our software not in Japan or America.
Just a moment please.
Thank you

Minotirs BASIC looks like it's better suited for making games,
but no idea how fast either of these to languages run on the actual devices themselves.
