The homepage says shareware though. Unregistered produces 10 min clips with watermark.

Whatever program to rip gameplay/app usage that outputs non-compressed formats(avi+no compression+adpcm?sound 24b stereo/mono) is always the best for speed and quality.

It may take a lot of space, but them, you have a chance to edit/post process this file into your final video and THEN you compress it to the format your online youtube/vimeo best accepts. That way you can upload the best quality there is.

If your app is ripping desktop image already using a compressor, then you will loose later on and if your comp is not fast enough to deal the process and compression it will slug.

I have to insist people take a look at virtualdub, it is free and can do it all on the upmost highest qualities there is. It is already an ancient app, but the most powerfull I have ever seen. You will need some knowledge on video/audio codec stuff and a few more, and it is far a friendly app (press a button resolve things) but it compensate at the end. If you are willing to take the time :)

A rule I have always followed is that compression during content creation (be it video, audio or gfx) is generally not a good idea.  Certain item's like gfx with lossless compression like PNG are an exception of course but if you need to make edits on items that use lossy compression quality starts to deteriorate rapidly.

TBH with the current price's & size of hard drives storage shouldn't be an issue.

+1 for Virtualdub, if you need video editing, this is one of those "I can't believe this is free!" type of applications.
