Title: Selling code
Post by: MrTAToad on 2012-Apr-08
As it was the monthly free listing on eBay, I decided to see if anyone wants to buy the source code to my three games :)

Seriously? :S

Links?

Are you selling all three in one transaction or each individually?

Good luck :)

[EDIT] Foundeded -

Atomz (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Source-code-my-AtomZ-game-/320884266792?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item4ab6315728)

Ballz (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Source-code-my-BallZ-game-/320884278121?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item4ab6318369)

Spots (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Source-code-my-Spots-Next-Generation-game-/320884282064?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item4ab63192d0)

Do you think it would help if eBayers could play the actual games (by putting up a link to them), so that they could see what they were getting full access to? I'd want to know how good/bad the game played before parting with my cash.

Anyway, it's certainly a possible revenue for you :)

This is really an interesting idea, I wonder about the values.
On another thread I was wondering about the ´value´ of a game or code.
Being out of such industry, leaves me no expert clue but what I can gather from the internet.

I found values that goes from 10k to 250k.

Real interesting idea!

ps:. Mr.Tatoad, I´m busted till Thursday, when I then get free days again, other then my birthday, should be able to complete our stuff just about after that, don´t worry, it never left my mind. :good:

HI MrTatoad , make a couple of weeks I comment this in a forum game... the answer was, can be ineteresting but... :

I explain a little:

My idea it´s like yours, but for sell in ebay, an very important point it´s the presentation... I think a donwloaded project don´t have too much interesting for the people, in my Country people pay, about from 15€ to 60 for a "simple" cassete, for a game of 20 years old... well they are collectors... but simple gammer or hard gammer can be very ineterested in a box than the game... rare but it´s true.

If you have a game, my idea it´s contact whit any people thats make a simple or nice box, intrutions papers and all this things, in these days I´m sure for not too much money you can find someone... and after sell in ebay...

In example, I don´t kwno how can cost make a format like this, but this was "cartón" (hard paper)

Yes, might be an idea to create an CD inlay and what not - could also increase the price by saying it's rare...

Will have to think about that...

Yes MrTatoad, if the game it´s "rare" the price increase a lot... but not rare I say, it´s a extrange to play ... in fact the gamers I know tolds rare, to games what are very difficult to have got... or games in his time don´t have to much repercusión or now have a very few copies in internet...

About make "hombrew sell" it´s easy, only need CD boxes... (Chinnese Bazar, for 7€ you have 100 boxes), after make or contact whit somelse make a good design, and goes to a "copiest" ("copisteria"), (you can have 100 pages whit the desing in Color, about 20€).

3 Buy a laser DVD Rom, for print the DVD, anyone at these days can do It, well make some times only make the serigraphy in Black and White and the DVD are an special type, don´t are too much expensive...

Put the paper into the Box  =D =D

Sell it, or try it...

Good idea, but you should to put more screens of the game, and a longer descriptions about the game, and the techniques you use in it. Like scrolls, algorithms, image manipulation, music, sprite collisions. A little explanation of GLBasic is desiderable too, no too much people knows. Things for attract the reader or programmer to buy.

More pictures cost money unfortunately - but the rest of your ideas are quite good!

Mentalthink´s idea of a cover is great.

I see Locomalito is also doing it for his ´above excellent´ freeware games:
http://www.locomalito.com/boxed_games.php

If you don´t know his work, stop everything and go check it out!

I have also received a ´boxed´game from Heavy Stylus(James Monkman) the same way.
This one, RobotZdx, he sent me after me beating the game  :)
I contains a neat printed disk, cover with wonderful pixel art, manual, source code and all assets used in game.
Really nice!
You get to play this game here:

Hope it all inspires!

Hi Erico thanks for the link...

Yes I know the Works of Loco Malito, I think he is from Madrid... it´s absolutely nice work, all the people speak about them works very nice, they are 2 Gryzor 78 and he...

Another little Studio it´s having a lot repercusión it´s Relevo, they makes games very interesting, and now for iphone, but they beggin whit MSX and Spectrum... but in this days , not make 20 years...

Another point important... I don´t kwno in another Countries but in Spain the 8 bits and RetroComputing have a lot of fans... I think in UK, Deutschland, have too , in fact now have some Magazines about 8 and 16 bits in these countries... well, make a game for CPC, Spectrum or MSX, I think can be a very good auto-advertising...

Perhaps you can say, well ASM it´s too much works, you can use a Cross-Compiler, like ccz80, it´s comething like GLBasic  :P but for MSX, AMstrad and Spectrum, you only pic the code one time, and you have working in all these Z80 Machines... only you have to change the library for hadle the graphics... change a lot from (MSX-SPECtrum) to Amstrad CPC...
