Title: What colour is holidays?
Post by: Kitty Hello on 2011-Dec-21
Seriously, what colour is it?
I think it's a bright cyan. Maybe with a gradient to dark blue. I'm uncertain.

Something different: My G.A.C.K. has sold 92 (WebOS) + 8 (Android) copies today. That's by far a lot more than I expected.

Yellow. Gradient to orange.

100 copies a day? Full paid for versions? That's really good! I didn't get much more than that for my free games when they were doing well...

You want to do a free ad enabled version too. Better even if you could somehow make it so the ads appear in the users game too but are automatically paid into your account. Like a legit Pyramid scheme. You could easily go Mwahahaha then :)

100 in total. One month now.

Ah ok. Still not bad. Pays for a new iPod does it not?

I'd deffo look into the Pyramid Ad scheme if I was you though. Can't think there would be a problem of enforcing ads in user created games even if they do link to your account. Currently that could potentially be 100 games with adverts paying to you. Possibly make the app a fair bit cheaper and include ads, but then have in-app purchasing to get rid of apps. Nice little earner...

Cheers

Trust me working in the biggest trading estate in Europe (Slough) next to a Mars factory is Grey grey grey. Although it is holiday we are talking about... Still grey as staying in the UK for Xmas.

What?  You have the Dr. Who's Christmas Special to look forward to!   :D

Actually, you say that, but apparently the town I live (Bracknell - near Ascot/Windsor etc) was chosen years ago as a place to film Dr Who. :)

The reason why? It was such a grey depressing town centre that it fit in exactly with the future Armageddon type scenario they wanted :) Still waiting on a new town centre for a decade or two...

Tis true though :)

But yeah. Doesn't the avatar give it away? I literally talked like that guy for a week at the time (and I was in my thirties just about) much like when Bill and Ted came out. Or a Bee Gees song...

holidays are some special time of the year. They must have outstanding colours.
yellow to orange sound reasonable. I think holiday can't be fixed to one colour.
Gold is a great thought, too. But it feels to "solid" for holidays. Holidays need pastels.
Title: Re: What colour is holidays?
Post by: Slydog on 2011-Dec-21
First, you refer to 'holidays'.
Does that mean Christmas / Chanukah specifically, or a generic colour to represent ALL holidays ALL year long?

If Christmas, I don't know about Europe, but over here Red and Green are the Christmas colours.
So, if you want to narrow it down to ONE colour, you combine red and green, and get yellow!

A red/green gradient may look good, especially if one is light / pastel.

I'll settle for any colour when I'm away from work tbh. I don't want to be out of work, but sometimes I can't stand being at work!

I agree with gold & orange. Really cosy colours for holidays. With a touch of pink being a father to a beautiful girl.  :-*

But, back in the younger days, it was all about puke green.  :booze: :puke: :booze:

Yes, any holidays.
I'm so looking forward to a few days off, I'd even sign for grey and black.
Maybe holidays are of rainbow colours.

When I launch fantasy Bricks on iphone, a 1.5 year ago, I thin,k well... I can gain some money, well this color was... well no color...   :'(

I think we make things very nice and good, but the problem it´s , how promove or move our applications... I think a great error it´s make a only one guy an application, I tell this sometimes in forum for make little groups, but I think the people don´t have too much interesting in this... but make a game, whit a great quality, I think it´s poractically imposible only for a only men, not for kwnledges, but for time of developement, perhaps, after don´t gain too much...

Another point, I thinks this it´s like a bonoloto, perhaps make something it´s really bad and gain a great quantity.

The 80´s times are history, 2 friens, making rich in front her "sppeccy" uhh!!!, this time was a great time!!!..., that´s is... History...

Gernnot, don´t worry about your sells, it´s like all, try and try, perhaps someday gain a bunch of money, if not, well you was fun programming.

PS: Money are only 1 and 0 in an account bank computer... perhaps in somemonths, my country all computers have this 0000-0000-0000-0000
>:D >:D >:D >:D

I don't worry about money. In fact I'm pretty astonished how much I can make just from my hobby. I'm not doing this because of the money. Otherwise I'd do games with naked chicks and flamethrowers and zombies, only. I make games for fun and for my kids.

Don't worry about any country going bankrupt. The big companies are totally interested in all countries to be fluid, they'll find a way to force others (us e.g.) to pay for whatever costs appear so they don't lose a market.

I can see it now... Cheerleaders vs Zombies flamewars (Lube edition)....

Deffinitely. If you want to be safe, make the chicks wear ninja bandannas.

I'll wait for the film - I can't play those sorts of games one handed! ;) :P

You know if it wasn't for being married I would damn well make that game! Ok, possibly only after getting amazingly drunk over Xmas, but still...

I'm thinking Gauntlet (with 4 player wireless multiplayer for that Cheerleader on Cheerleader on flesh eating zombie on flesh eating fire covered zombie action) type gameplay and graphics for that massive retro feel. And un-satisfactory, but legal and Apple passable, pixel nudity.

Cheers

Bugger. Now I really want to do a Gauntlet clone...

it exists on consoles. on my Wii, Bikini Zombie Slayer, a coop 1st person game. You manage 2 girls, in bikini, killing zombies with big guns.

Anything has been done before, even bizarre ones.

I can´t resist...

"Show me colours of your holidays, beautiful and nice!"
"the colours in me, are the colours in glbasic , are the colourse we seeeeeee lara diii lara daaa ri da"

Masterboy got the bikini part right, he just missed the zombies and flame thrower :O
ok there is a helicopter there...but it´s not the same!

Being a freelance worker for about 10 years, I have no idea what "holiday" means anymore, it´s more like holiday every day(i wish).
Holiday times around the world are actually a little bad for me, since it is a time when roads are crowded and prices are high and places like restaurants and so on are full. I actually take my time off in between them.

Cyan and light blue sure are some of the colours in there, I would add just a little of yellow and orange and would keep it all based on a stripe of green on its base... quite like the sky on a sun rise with no clouds and lot´s of grass, sand and beach.

edit: If it wasn´t for kitty doing the post and second and third paragraph to be talking about G.A.C.K I would sure think it could be spamm!:)

OK, I admit the question was a bit silly... Sorry for bothering.

Just one question left...
... what's the smell of holidays?

I mean - it must smell sweet. Like warm candy. And with cinnamon and vanilla.
Title: Re: What colour is holidays?
Post by: erico on 2011-Dec-22
it must be similar to the smell of rain on asphalt/mud. probably with a bit of ocean smell altogether, a pinch of grass smell and topped with eucalyptus trees too.

ps: I guess living in a tropical country really pushed this opinion of mine...

Cinnamon, candy apples, mulled wine and a smoky wood wire.

mulled wine google helped me out on that, seems quite nice, almost similar to quentão in brasil, but a lot better.
Smoky wood wire? what is that?

being born with an extra sensitive nose, even being a smoker, I can tell smells from a far far distance. It´s not the best mutant ability ever, I would prefer laser eyes, but heck, now you got me into this smell thing... never heard of smoky wood wire...a friend´s family from portugal is visiting him, I will try check with them if they know about it.

gasp :O

got it, not used to burning wood, just had that when I was living in the US, or maybe winter around here on the south states, where it actually gets any cold...burning wood actually gets me inside a pizza restaurant/parlor or barbecue... :good:

I have a very sensible nose, too. My kid as well. It's great when I'm next to my wife, but a true pain in the 200m radius of public toilettes.

My sense of smell is terrible. When I was a late teen I could smell only a few aromas - chocolate, burnt matches and Brussels sprouts. I hate the smell of sprouts, so it was a real fun time at Christmas :(

My sense of smell is better now, but still not great. I've got a medical condition called Persistant non-allergenic rhinitis. I used to have to use steroid nasal sprays, but gave up on them after a while - they didn't help that much and cost me a fortune. However, like I said, the condition has improved and I can smell more things more often. just not as well as other people - sometimes it does have advantages!
