Title: Need an icon
Post by: ampos on 2011-Oct-07
Hey!

I know there is real artists out there, and I am no one of this :)

As the app for displaying photos on the TouchPad has no random option and found no app for displaying, I have created a new app, PhotoFrame :)

If someone wants to make me a logo/icon for such app  :nw: I will be very gratefull.

I need the 512x512 image, that will be scaled down to icons and used for splash screen.

This is my current splash screen :)

I'm not specially good, but I'll give it a try later today.

New versions of splash screen, 512 and icon.

Ideas? Likes/dislikes?

Ampos I like too much better first, the other I don´t like too much, from my point of view.

Not sure if I love either actually. Perhaps change the second one to have a better photo in it. I would say go for a nice landscape. Say a snowy mountain or something.

Cheers

Do you like Digital Photo Frames?

Your device has some native applications that will display photos as a Digital Photo Frame (DPF), but they are very limited.

With Diniplay's Digital Photo Frame software, your device will turn into a great DPF to display all your photos in a very convenient way.

And with a great ease of use.

Your photos will be displayed in ramdon order, but if you like one of a set, you can browse the photos easily with just the touch of the screen.

Also a very convenient clock is displayed on the screen while your photos are shown on your device screen.

DPF will find your photos stored in the main memory of the device (in the directory/drawer "/photos"), the ones taken by the camera (in "/DCIM") and the ones from your Facebook!

We are so excited about our new app that we can not wait to share it with you anymore.

Just download it while it is in promotion price, and you will get new updates with the upcoming options, as Flickr, Albums management and everything you can think!

We have so many things on our mind to improve Digital Photo Frame that you can expect almost a new upgrade per week!

Remember, NOW it is in promotion price, and it will be more expensive in a few days. Just download it today and support us to improve it more!

FEATURES:

-No settings. Can it be more easy? Nothing to touch. Just run and go.

-Fade, pan and movement. Images are displayed using a sweet animation system that will make your slideshow even more enjoyable.

-Clock. A clock displays current date and time for your convenience.

-Random. Do you have a ton of photos and are tired of watching always the sames? DPF will display them in random order for your convenience.

-Navigate. Do you like a photo? Just touch the screen and swipe your finger to navigate into similar photos.

-Forget and go. Do not touch the screen for 3 seconds and the slideshow will start again.

SET-UP:

Just create a folder on your device called "photos" (in lowercase!). Drop into this folder all your photos. That's all.

Due to memory limits, image sizes are limited to 4096x4096 pixels (in touchpad). Anyway, we have found that the best is to use some software on your computer to downscale them to your device screen:
  -TouchPad: 1024x768 or 768x1024
  -Mobile phones: 320x480 or 480x320

They will take less space on your device, will be loaded in less time, will eat less memory from your device and no quality loss is seen on your device screen.

Digital Photo Frame will read also the photos taken by your device's camera (as said before, as image sizes are limited, the camera photos reading has been disabled on the phones. Sorry. Will try to fix this but not soon. Meanwhile, copy them to the photos folder and resize dowm them.)

If you have setup a Facebook account on your device and it has downloaded photos, they will be added to the slide show list.

UPCOMING (in no especific order):

-FlickR. DPF will download photos from FlickR and display them. You can download the FlickR's featured ones, use a search term or by user.

-Picassa. The same as FlickR

-Pinch for Zoom. While in "manual" mode, pinch with two fingers to zoom a photo and explore it.

-Change times. The time delay and mix time for photos will be changeable.

-Device turn. Turn the device and display your photos in portrait or landscape mode.

-Customizable clock. You will be able to turn on or off the on screen clock, and customize it to your desiree.

-Weather. Do you want to know the weather on your city? Just go to the window and look outside! Or perhaps you are lazy as me, and will look at your device screen. :)

-Albums. Your photos will be separated in albums, and DPF would show photos only of your desired albums. Currently, DPF is using internally albums, but the "select album menu" is not created. If you want to prepare your actual photos for upcoming album options, just separate your photos in directories inside the /photo dir. Directories inside directories will not be used as albums. So, you should have a directory structure like this on your phone:

/photos
  /Christmas 2010/
    001.jpg
    ...
  /Summer 2011
    anyname.jpg
    morephotos.jpg

If you have any problem or any idea, please, email me and I will try to fix it or get it working. Positive feedback on the store is wellcomed!

Oh, and my latest icon, displaying a photo of my child under the water

Anyway, can you change it to "Diniplay"? I like your font and i am now at the hospital (nothing serious)

Nice. Shiny thingy are always better. :)

Only thing I would change is make another one for a Pro version. A different colour perhaps with the word Pro on it :)

There is no pro version yet.

Should i set it as free with limited options, and an in-app purchase for "pro"?
Title: Re: Need an icon

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping to do on my next game. Only downside is cannot change the icon as far as I know. Would be nice to have a different icon and startup screen.

The problem is that on webos there is no in-app purchase made for glb, so we have to use somekind of external payment like paypal, then manual online setup and online check.

On some paypal post, i put some code for this.

I like "lite" versions with inapp registering as they can not be pirated as full (easily), but full versions are easy to setup on the stores :)

I think you're wrong, it can be done fully automatic, as it functions in IOS In-App.

You can take a look at the application "European Scoreboard" in English or "Marcadores Futbol" in Spanish, you can download in App Catalog. Click the info icon and will see "No Premium", try to make a donation (I will refund  :rtfm:) and you will see then "Premium".

Only, one must know how to program in PHP and MySQL.  :nana:
Title: Re: Need an icon
Post by: Crivens on 2011-Oct-09
iOS isn't a problem. The last app Ampos did shows that. It's just WebOS (and I assume Android) has nothing for it in GLB.

Personally, Ampos, I wouldn't worry about it. In iOS I would use the in-app purchasing for upgrading the game to Pro, and in WebOS just release a free and full version. When it comes to WebOS then just churn it out and don't worry about it. It's all a bit doubtful whether anything will exist in a years time anyway. I wouldn't worry about developing plugins for in-app purchasing and the like and just get it out there. Is a very good market at the minute to take advantage of but it won't last forever.

Cheers

Hi Crivens, I do not think I explained well (damn language).

I've made in WebOS / Android automatically via PayPal. You do the test I described above.

I like that. Are you going to use the shining light in the background on the icon? A good reason to do so (with transparency) is it would look pretty cool, but a downside is the square would then look smaller than most other icons...

Cheers
Title: Re: Need an icon
Post by: Kitty Hello on 2011-Oct-10
the didiplay-cat could do with a higher resolution and the white border cleaned up (alpha blending).
I'd load it on CorelDraw, vectorize and draw on the image then...

The background is a real gamma explosion taken from ESA web :)

As the icon, Im not sure. Once reduced to device resolution the text has almost dissapeared, and also I dont like to write names on the icons (but if they are some kind of logo-text) as it is yet under the icon, really.

Hey, Spicy, do me a 114x114 pixels icon!  :whip:

Use the current one, without letters, and wider borders. Or perhaps not.  :whip: :whip:

I am doing the screen captures for the game, will upload the app to webos store as soon as I got the icon  :whip: :whip: :whip:

=D :nw:

The cat was done for my by someone on this forum a long ago. I fixed it now. I dont like it too much, but is the one I have.

I wouldn't go with no text as it will just look like a red square as an icon. How about the icon only showing the initials "DPF"?

I thought he did it for WebOS? Specifically because WebOS didn't have a random option.

Personally I use Exhibition mode with FB album view. Nicely goes through the pictures on selected albums from FB without having to store the pics on the machine itself. Again though don't think it has a random option.

Looks nice at 114x114, it's still very legible. I could do a DPF using the font from the original Icon I made too though for comparison? Going out shortly but if there's anything you need I'll sort something out for you. Might do a cat whilst I'm at it lol :)

Title: Re: Need an icon
Post by: ampos on 2011-Oct-10
I choose because it is the bigger icon have today, reescaled down to the other devices. Although in 114 it can be read, it should be also at 57px, 64, 48,... I will go for the PDF one.

About the cat... my girl will love it. Anything else?

It is done for WebOS as target, but will do for iOS and Android too. And Crivens, the FB photos are stored on /media/internal/.photosApp/com.palm.facebook/your@email.is by WebOS. Easy go!

So, Gernot, 2 things:

1.- How can I load "big" jpg files and reescale down? On WebOS I can load upto 4096x4096, but on the Pre2, it can not even read his own camera photos :(

2.- How to access/read photos placed somewhere on Android?
Title: Re: Need an icon
Post by: Kitty Hello on 2011-Oct-10
1. Try with LOADSPRITEMEM (or so) to get the pixels into the memory. Then rescale down to 2048x2048 if they are bigger.

2. just read them - if you know the place. Or what was the question?

QuoteTry with LOADSPRITEMEM (or so) to get the pixels into the memory. Then rescale down to 2048x2048 if they are bigger
Use my generic resolution routine again (code snippets). Should sort that out with a slight modification.

1. Currently, I am using loadsprite. If I try to load a file bigger than 4096x4096 (on TP) it loads but distorted. Are you sure that loadspritemem is not limited?

Crivens, as you have it implemented, you will do me a favour if you just try to load a image bigger than this to check if there is no limit. If it works, I will go.

2. Kitty, I was talking about this:

http://www.glbasic.com/forum/index.php?topic=6986.msg56843#msg56843
Title: Re: Need an icon
Post by: Crivens on 2011-Oct-10
That is like when I loaded used LOADANIM on a spritesheet that was really long (over 1000x) but only one sprite vertical. My 3GS was ok, but my 2G Touch flipped out with distorted graphics. The fix was to use a more square spritesheet.

Not sure if LOADSPRITEMEM will load a bigger image than LOADSPRITE can. I probably won't get a chance to test now until tomorrow night. But if Kitty reckons it will then my code should work. It just takes the X and Y ratio based on the resolution and the target resolution and uses these to resize the images. All you probably need to do is alter the code to enforce the resize value. My code then saves the images so it's faster on next load but should be easy enough to avoid even that to use straight as a sprite.

Cheers

Where you using loadsprite or loadspritemem?
Title: Re: Need an icon
Post by: Crivens on 2011-Oct-10
QuoteWhere you using loadsprite or loadspritemem?
Ah, just checked my old code and it uses sprite2mem rather than loadspritemem. I originally used loadsprite but then you lose the full transparency settings (only uses one alpha if paste with pink basically). Loadspritemem is loads better as it keeps the full alpha value (ie. 0-255 rather than 0-1) of each pixel, whereas using loadsprite and grabsprite techniques leaves you with only the one alpha value (0-1).

Easy to alter though, just change my code http://www.glbasic.com/forum/index.php?topic=6415.0 (http://www.glbasic.com/forum/index.php?topic=6415.0) to use loadspritemem instead directly. Only downside is it uses loadsprite originally to get the X and Y values of the sprite. Might be an easier way to get these values, or are they still correct even though image is messed up? Easiest method there then is to loadsprite to get X and Y, and then loadsprite "" to clear it, then loadspritemem and do my resize routine. Note it is a very simple routine to resize (can scale up or down) so a routine to do more clever resizing might be good. Main problem I found is if there is a single line (say black outline) on a sprite then it might miss it. But I just double line things now and it works. A better algorithm for picking the correct pixels would be cleverer than that and pick up the dark areas perhaps. Dunno... Although I do know that Gernot uses a better resize algorithm for sprite zooming now (pretty sure I read that now) so if he can give us the details we can use that instead. Although on your photo resize it should be ok.

Cheers
