You will be pleased to know that GLBasic Android programs run on Uberoid Android replacement OS :)
that's a custom Android for china tablets?
And for others too... Mine decided not to boot yesterday, so I had that installed...
My new Android phone does DRAWLINE in colour, which is great :)
Hmm, interesting. I have one of those china tablets which annoyingly is only 2.1 so no GLB goodness. How do you go about installing a new OS, and is there an easy way to create (and obviously restore) a backup incase everything hits the fan?
Cheers
Its actually quite simple : You need a PC that can read and write micro SD cards (or standard ones depending on what your tablet can do - needs to be formatted to FAT32), download the appropriate file from http://techknow.freeforums.org/ (you do need to register unfortunately). You also need to know the make or at least the processor type (if not you could always ask there).
You then download the file, unzip to the SD card, and most likely run a batch file to select the correct ROM. Stick the card in the tablet and it should boot off it. Watch on-screen prompts for when to eject SD card.
The usual advice if it doesn't go well is to try another ROM - I dont know of any utilities that will backup the ROM on the current machine, although there are utilities for doing your data.
Modaco is also a good source http://android.modaco.com/
Hmm. Interesting. I will have to look into that. Do you have to root your device before you do all that, or is it pretty straightforward?
Cheers
No you dont need to root it - it seems to be straightforward...
Really? Cool. I was considering using the official upgrade (2.2 for English but 2.3 for Chinese it seems) but this might be a good alternative. A quick browse though and I couldn't see my model (Haipad M701). Hopefully it is there somewhere or the chipset is supported.
Does everything work as it should though? Even the official firmware for mine has reports of certain things not working well. Not that I'm that bothered. As long as the main functionality works and I can get GLB working on it then that would do me really.
Cheers
Yes, everything works okay - no speed increase, but that was to be expected.
Excellent. I think I will definitely try the official firmware upgrades first, then if no joy give this Uberoid a go (if I can find one compatible with my tablet). Otherwise it's becoming a bit of a brick apart from being used as a digital photo frame (prefer video quality on my iPod4 as the res is a little low on the tablet when wanting to watch TV or somesuch). Getting it to work with GLB would give it a new lease of life. Nice.
Cheers
No problem!
