Be quick, it's a nice thing.
I think it might be US only - although I have requested one :)

My discount coupon is apparently being considered...
As is mine.
Wonder when/if we'll hear from them again ?
Ever the optimist - I doubt it :P
I'm pretty sure it's for America only, but I did ask specifically about offers for GB/Europe.
Fingers and toes crossed :)
Same here too :)
I tried too, sent an email to pdc@palm.com
is that enough? I hope so.
I did and mentioned that I would like to convert Spots to the Palm Pre...
Well, you guys with apps already going sure will have agreat chance into it!
I hope one of us into this forum can succed on this promo! ;/
Would be very nice!
In my initial application I sent several images of my current game and a full description. The game is already up and running on a Palm Pre as Gernot has tested it. His feedback identifed a few problems, but these were sorted those in just a few minutes. Hopefully the new version will work flawlessly and I'll have my first game on their site before the end of Feb.
Anyway, I got another reply this morning from HP stating that I have been accepted for the discount coupon and they are also offering me the chance to get a Pre 2 by completing an XL sheet.
I've now sent this off. :) :) :)
give us some screens , Ian :)
The game is based on my old GP2X/Wiz game, B'lox!, but with enhanced graphics, larger resolution and a few other added bits and bobs, so you've seen them all before, really.

I loved that game! Was that the winner on that competition?
QuoteAnyway, I got another reply this morning from HP stating that I have been accepted for the discount coupon and they are also offering me the chance to get a Pre 2 by completing an XL sheet
Aww - haven't got one - yet ;/
QuoteWas that the winner on that competition?
It actually won the GLBasic/GP2X.de competition in 2007/2008.
The game has changed a little since then and has been pretty much re-coded from the ground up. The puzzles have changed too - approx. 60% of them have required altering to better fit the iDevice screen display, as I increased the size of the blocks and walls etc. The menu system was also moved and updated, as were the options and instructions, and save format. So basically it's exactrly the same game, but re-written completely. :P
iam so glad whats not your easter compo game ;)
Quoteiam so glad whats not your easter compo game ;)
I haven't got a clue about the Easter game. Until Gernot releases rules, I'm not even thinking about it.

Bingo :(
We'll have to see what Peter Helm comes up with for European people :)
They seem to appreciate Spots and appear to be happy to send me a Palm Pre 2. Hopefully will be getting more information next week...
How did you manage that one you jammy git?
Hopefully by having a good game =D
I do think its pretty suitable for the machine, which helped. Oh, and smoozing up to Developer Relations may have helped too :)
Well, good luck :)
I got notified by them, they said they will analyze the case and so on, but poor south america people will probably get no chance into free gadget for dev... :(
B'lox definitely is worth trying to get a device, too.

I spoke to them last week (which sounded promising) and filled in a form, however I've not heard anything since. Maybe, just maybe I'll get lucky too.
BTW Gernot, did the B'lox! .OGG files work with your Pre in the end? What about the sfx noise (ting.wav)?
I received this email today:

Don't you just love auto-responders? =D
If it is an auto-responder, it takes more than 1 week to auto-respond me :)
I had a reply effectively every other day which was nice :)
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one...I'd even promise to make a couple of games for it, but I honestly wouldn't want to pay for it (perhaps because I don't know enough about it?). Could be fun to play around with, though.
I've made about 15 games, or so, but only one in GLB. I wonder if that would convince them it'd be worth sending me one? :)
pick the best game. They don't know what language you wrote it in.
Um...
:D :D :D

:O
is that it?
Well, there's a phone in the box (I presume - I haven't checked yet). But other than some bubble packaging, that's it.
I just got in from work and my son had signed for it and left the box on the chair. I'm sitting down with a cuppa before I do anything else. It's been a long day already...
BTW Many thanks Gernot for making us aware of this :)
Excellent! Palm FTW!
Hope I hear from them tomorrow :)

Guys in the questionnaire what programming language did you say you were using ?
Anyone know how long this offer is running for ?
No idea unfortunately.
It was just an XL spreadsheet (which asked a few standard questions) but it never mentioned a programming language IIRC. I'm at work now, so I can't check.
It was basically - name, address, number of games you wish to release in the next year, titles and genre. I just chose 4 from my recent back-catalogue, which I can port/update quickly and easily.
I don't know how long the offer was for, but the site stated 100 free dev units (which are totally unlocked to any network).
Just been notified that it'll be sent out shortly :)
How long did yours take to arrive Ian ?
I never knew they were sending it tbh. I still haven't had any mail to say that they were sending one - it was a complete surprise.
And B'lox! is up and running nicely on it already =D
B'lox outstandingly rocks!
...that must be the reason they send you the package right away! :-[
Going to stick the game on the Palm store ? Will be interesting to see how well it sells...
I do intend to put B'lox! on the Palm Store, but first Gernot needs to fix the sound delay problem. Hopefully it'll be a quick and easy fix for him.
I'm finally getting a Palm Pre 2. I received another email today:
Hey Mike-
I can actually hook you up with a free Pre 2, if you're committed to porting Hit the Deck over.
Let me know your address and phone number, and I'll have one sent out.
Cheers,
Peter

Excellent news :)
just need Gernot to sort out the sound problem and we're all good to go! =D
Wonder how long it'll take to arrive :) I'll contact Palm if it hasn't by the end of next month.
Mine was shipped by Express delivery on 17.02.11 and arrived ont the 21.02.11.
:)
Get the latest update. The sound problem is fixes as good as I can. I hope it's not stuttering now.
I'm sure Ian will tell you if its not :)
There might be a chance it could arrive within the week then !

I haven't tried tbh - the Logfile never mentioned a sound fix for WebOS.
"To the Palm Pre, Robin!" =D
[EDIT] It works! Yay. Now to get B'lox! up on the HP/Palm Store =D
Cheers Gernot! :) :)
Oh great - MORE form filling.
Gernot, did you have to complete Forms W-8BEN and W-7?
No, I did not fill W-7, but you must be sure to check the "Consider payment specifications due to XTR-A257" and then fill WT-F21 and OM-G17.
Honestly, the form filling is a lot easier than with Apple IMO. Still it sucks. All I want is to upload my game and they should take screenshots and write a good review in 28 languages for me. I just need the paycheque.
.
I didn't see any mention of
Quote"Consider payment specifications due to XTR-A257" and then fill WT-F21 and OM-G17.
:P
I presume that means that you did fill in W-8BEN though?
No, I was making a joke. Is there really a form "W-8BEN"!?
To enable the game to be sold on the HP/Palm store you have to fill in US tax papers (W-8BEN and probably W7 too). Free apps don't need these. How did you manage to sell your apps without completing these? See attachment. You cannot change the "FREE" to a paid value until the tax info is completed.
???
ah, right. I filled these out.
What I did back in the App Store is: Call my tax inspector (government guy - usually gal) and have her help me fill the form. They usually are quite friendly when you are polite and don't come with threatening calls as they get the rest of the day.
OK. Cheers Gernot. I'll try to do the same. :)
Do you still require a US tax code like in the iPhone requirement ? If so : urrrgghhh...
What company name will you give if you aren't a company ? Fortunately I will only need to bother about it if/when I get my Palm...
Yes you need a US tax code. You need to complete Forms W-8BEN and W7 (according to the Palm dev website).
You can use your own name instead of a company name.
It is still possible to get a free Palm Pre 2. If you want to know how, contact me by private message. I do not want to provide the data here because it can be indexed by Google and I do not want to favor people outside our community. :booze:
My free Palm Pre 2 is accepted, already. :enc:
Greetings.

Nice!
I got the letter about 2 weeks ago saying they were going to send me a PRE 2, but haven't
heard from them since. How long did you have to wait MrTAToad?
Just need a new SIM now as it can't be used without it...
I used my Virgin SIM from my mobile and then replaced it with another free SIM I ordered online from Virgin (free of charge). All was good. :)
[EDIT] Spelling.
Ordered my free SIM's today :)
NAH! Place a SIM in, then turn flight mode on, and remove the SIM.
Would be nice, but I currently cant get past the "sim must be authorised" message :)
Yes, place your daily sim in there for a minute. Or get you sister's.
Yep, it just needs a SIM that has been activated first to work.
Unfortunately no - wont let me use hers :( There is a spare one which I may be able to get hold of later on, which would be good...
As my free SIM cards hadn't turn up, I had to pay for a new SIM card :S
It's a very nice phone - I haven't been able to start development for it due to unwanted intrusion by an ex-customer about another ex-customer wanted a problem sorted...
Okay, I've been sitting on my...butt - and not done a thing (stupid), but now that many of you have recieved your phones I decided that I should try to get one too.
I mean - I can only get a "no", right. ;)
A few questions;
* Some of you have gotten a cupon for $200 off, but some of you have gotten the phone free of charge too, right...or what?
* Following the link on the first page I can't see where or to who I should write. Did they remove a link...perhaps because there are no more phones?
...and if that's not it - can someone post a link/email I can use?
Soks: Check your PMs.
is still available?
I want one! :P
I think its finished now
I sent of a letter last night and already had a reply back this morning.
Well, I didn't get a 'yes' but I didn't get a 'no' either.
What I got was "Would you be able to port any of these games to one of our future devices like the Veer, Pre 3 or the TouchPad?"
I must have sold myself well... =D
...but unfortunately I can't really answer anything but 'perhaps' to that, as I'd be utterly reliant on Kitty to do this and he'd probably need to have the same device first, to be able to support it. :doubt:
Just say "YES!" you might get one of the newer machines out of this - I'm pretty sure they won't ask for it back if you don't deliver.
Touchpad. Me wants touchpad!
Folks, where is the great iPhone devs here? I've not heard of any game ported to the pre. And what is easier than that?
I think having a product you can demonstrate that could be converted would help.
The touchpad does look great :
Should be out in June and hopefully will be cheaper than an iPad...
And would be great if more people supported the Pre by converting iPhone stuff...
Err Gernot - you've actually got B'lox! so you know that I'm working with it. I have uploaded it to the App Catalog, but I'm just waiting for it to be reviewed and my forms to go through.
I'm working on two other games for the Pre at the moment.
Yes. But the Apple App store thread is full of other games, but none have been ported so far.
I really hope people will catch up and make the App Catalog something great. I like the OS better than iOS (the iPhone hardware I like slightly better than the Pre, then).
I really love the hassle free dev cycle with the Pre. Compile your code and use the macro and it's up and running on the Pre in under 30seconds. Love it.
If only the Pre's screen was as large as the iDevice.
To be fair, there aren;t that many of us on here that have the Pre and the iDevice just yet. And give it time - GBasic games (that are not yours) should be appearing on the App Catalog soon. Then we can start an App Catalog thread =D
I told them I'd like to work on stuff for their TouchPad, but haven't heard anything back yet. I only mailed them sunday evening though. That doesn't worry me though...as I've already read that they aren't that good at communicating info to their users.
I hope I'm be able to compile to it, if it arrives, though. :D
But no skin off my nose. I just started porting my Omega Race 2009 to GLBasic yesterday, so the work won't be for nothing and it'll definitely be out for the iPad even if it doesn't end up on the TouchPad.
It will surely end on the WebOS pad, because I will get one and port GLBasic to support it. Unless they changed a very lot like disabling SDL. But I think they are pretty clever not to do so.
Finally received a Palm Pre 2. Hopefully it won't be to hard to convert my iPhone game to the Pre 2.
Should be no problem at all. It should just work (and probably a bit faster/smoother than iPhone too).
I am writing this from my new Palm, received today. Woot!
Cool :)
Now I have to learn how to run software on it, I have no idea at all :)
Open GLBasic Editor and press F1 :good:
If you can run software on an iDevice, you can run it on a Pre.
Installing your own GLB software is not only easier, but it's quicker too. Just plug in the USB and then run the PRE macro (once you've set it up). It's a doddle and the way iDevice should have been.
And it's a lovely machine.
I though I had to install some SDK...
I had problems installing the app on the Palm, but the problem was a bad USB port on my desktop puter.
Follow these instructions:
http://www.glbasic.com/xmlhelp.php?lang=en&id=395&action=view
Couldn't be any easier! This is how the iPlatforms should be.
The only problem I'm having is the sound lags a little, but I thing that has something to do with WebOS,
and the Alpha Blending isn't working on my images.
Other than that HTD Baseball plays and looks great on the Palm.

LOL, there is a dumb guide for WebOS on the help file! =D
But the install screipt is (yet) not working for me. I will move myself to another thread.
It should work fine if you aren't using the beta :)
The macro opens/closes a window so fast I can not see anything.
I will try later at home.
Stick a pause in, although I found that it can close in the Java part...
run as Administrator!!
