Title: OBJ file - UV map broken
Post by: doimus on 2010-Jan-22
I think I ran into a problem with GLB's 3D converter.

When importing/converting OBJ  file, UV map gets distorted/flipped/strange stuff.

If I open the same OBJ file with AC3D and then export it as ddd, no problem.
OBJ was originally exported from Lightwave 9.6

edit: I've included simple model, with ddd's from GLB and AC3D.

Texture seems upside down. Can you please texture me some "unique" object, so I can tell if I do it right?
Something like a simple man or such. Also make left/right unique (left side red arm, or write some text at the front of the dude).

Gernot,
You diagnosed the same problem for me about a month ago with ".obj" files - the texture was upside down for me too.

very strange - what program is right then? What programs did you use to make them?

How about enhancing the converter to react flexible on export features like this? Add 2 options to flip U/V coordinates.

Or... have the converters from the 3D apps be changed.

When I created a blender export script for another language, I had to add similar options there too as Blender has a different axxis alignment.

I just loaded my models in
Metasequoia
Wings3D
DeleD Pro

and all of them show the same UV map (ie. they are the right way up in these programs, but upside down in relation to GLBasic)

I'd test it in Blender too but I can't figure out how to display the saved UV map  =D

Did you try the converter I just posted? Maybe it's fixed now?

The new converter fixes it for me. I'll try it with more objects and let you know if anything pops up.

Thanks for the quick fix! Stellar user support! :booze:

Sorry about the delay in testing the fix Gernot - it's working fine for me too.
Cheers!
