Title: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: Ian Price on 2008-Nov-05
Hi Gernot

I know you've been playing with the Wiz for a while now and wondered when we'll be able to compile our own Wiz GLB apps? Will this be possible in V6.0 from the off?

i think so,... yes.

in the beta, you can already select "WIZ" to compile.

Other Question to Gernot:   Is a Compilation for Pandora planned?    if yes, Date?

Wiz _when_ you can buy it.
Pandora _if_ you can buy it.

German: Wie sieht es mit Netzwerksupport seitens GLBasic/Pandora aus? (werden da die Netzwerkbefehle funktionieren?)

English (more or less ): How about network-support? Will it work on GLBASIC/Pandora ?

Sceptic? ;) As soon as first users have it you'll see that the dream has become true.

Yes, network stuff works on linux, thus no problem. It will work with the WIZ Wifi addon, too (once this will be out).

Got 3D chip of the WIZ working now. But it's flickering, still and I have to change function calls internally, since it's unusefully slow, still.

It's a start though, Gernot  :good:

MK0s have been out for a while for developers.

I've not seen _one_ fully featured prototype, yet. There is none. Since 2 days they have a prototype of the rubber keyboard. No keys, yet.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: Ian Price on 2008-Dec-17
There are no keys Gernot. That rubber mat IS the keys - it is hardened on top, so it's not going to be too Spectrum like. Only the D-ad and Buttons are going to be plastic. Obviously the nubs are different entriely.

Post by: bustaballs on 2008-Dec-17
The MK0s are just the board and LCD. For input you use alternate USB or bluetooth devices (now that bluetooth is working). They are just dev boards but seem to be enough for everyone to pump out many awesome emulators, games, applications, and even full operating system ports. They've been having issues with the banking as well as getting part shipments on the proper dates. I guess that not too many banks like a flood of well over a million dollars in a few days time.

Like a speccy keyboard? Oh no! Didn't they know it was shit?

Gernot's approach about the Pandora really seems to be quite dismissive... have no clue what's going on there...

Just ignore me. I might be totally wrong.

I was hoping for proper plastic keys over the rubber mat too. Still, many tv remotes etc. use the same approach and they feel OK.

Did you make a proper project (using the project wizard)?
Can you compile this project for windows?
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: heliuse on 2008-Dec-26

it's good it compiles.
I installed the new sdk 6.111.
I used an old beta 6 update.
GPH sent me another wiz with new buttons ABXY.
what firmware you use on your wiz? or download?
I have to recompile the game with the last POKER GLBasic and send it to GPH.

Thank you.

hello.

The command END does not leave the game.
the wiz crashes .

thank you

Post by: Kitty Hello on 2008-Dec-31
It does end, but the menu does not show up properly, yet. I'm investigating this.

OK, the end-crash bug is fixed. Please web-update now.

The touchscreen is a bit inaccurate ATM. I'll fix that quickly, too. For Poker2X it should be OK, though.

Kitty Hello, thank you . glbasic 6.122 :)

playmusic does not work with midi on the wiz ?
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: Kitty Hello on 2009-Jan-04
No, it seems they did not include timidy. Try MP3 or ogg, please.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: heliuse on 2009-Jan-06
I can not use ogg with glbasic.
Even with windows.
the wiz to leak with the mp3.

merci.

Post by: MrTAToad on 2009-Jan-06
Probably because you have no OGG codecs installed...  Unfortunately, I dont think there are any per se.  The idea being the music playing system decodes the data itself.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: heliuse on 2009-Jan-08
congratulation for glbasic  6.127  :)

I can not play ogg.
Mp3 grésillent and slow down wiz.
On the wiz, I can not reproduce music properly with the glbasic.

thank you.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: mr_x on 2009-Jan-08
Maybe i wrong, but as I know, glbasic does not support ogg format. The only way is to use fmod wrapper. By the way there is free alternative to fmod - audiere, maybe someone will write wrapper for glbasic someday.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: mathux on 2009-Jan-08
GLBasic does support OGG as long as the operation system itself does support OGG. So if you can play OGG files with your Wiz, then GLBasic should be able to play them as well.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: heliuse on 2009-Jan-09
The problem here is to reproduce music properly on the wiz.
regardless of the format.
(on my pc, VLC read ogg. glbasic but do not read it.)

I think the correction of the bug mp3 wiz is a priority.
I must send a poker game GPH.
Thank you.

I try my very best, but something has totally messed up. The old WIZ did play MP3 properly for me, the new one jitters when I use music.
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: MrTAToad on 2009-Jan-14
Sounds like they've messed up the drivers or something...
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation

OK, the new update *should* fix it.
Beware, the update might be buggy, since I changed a lot of other stuff. Please tell me and I might fix it tonight.

Hello Kitty, congratulations, mp3 works on wiz. :)
Playsound has now shifted.
almost a second between playsond and hear the sound.

Thank you.

same problem of late with its glbasic 6136.
Poker is running a 60 fps without mp3, and with a 40.
mp3 consumes too many resources.

Thank you.

Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: Kitty Hello on 2009-Jan-17
The mp3 decoder uses floating points, which consumes lots of resources.
If you use another library (MAD e.g.) that uses integers, the CPU will be reduced. But MAD is GPL, so your game will have to be GPL, too.
It's a shame. Maybe recompressing your mp3 to a lower quality might help? What about ogg?
Title: Re: GP2X Wiz app. compilation
Post by: heliuse on 2009-Jan-18
I can not use ogg with glbasic.
or on a Windows PC or wiz.
The slowdown of the game with the mp3 is not serious.
against by the bug playsound should be corrected so that playsound poker game works properly.
Thank you.

Why it is a shame? I'm sorry, but this author has done a hard work and he concluded his work under GPL. He is to be in the right. If anybody dislike it, he can use an other library or write his own. But it is not a shame.

well. Whatever. But not having a proper mp3 player library on a handheld device is a shame.

Did you find a solution here Gernot??

MP3 takes a huge ammount of resources on a regular PC too..
megabytes...

Tip for resources free music: midi is in KB sizes...thats what it was originally designed for.
Transferring a piano music score sheet, into GLMidi program, is easy if you know how to play a piano and read the music.

Can wiz even play midi?

Sadly most modern onboard soundcards sounds ... not extremely good ... when it comes to midi.

Thats news to me, midi output is a standard in the industry.

I have a crappy onboard myself, and yet it sounds fantastic.

However, the question was: Does WIZ play midi at all or not?

I think not, no.
