Title: Buying SDK for GP2X
Post by: PJBonoVox on 2007-Aug-15
Just looking at the website it looks like I need the premium package (with 3D and network code) if I want to develop for the GP2X. This is a stupid price just for some development on a 2D console.

Can anyone confirm that this premium package is required to compile for GP2X?

Yes you need the premium package for GP2X.

I think the price is more than fair considering the full features of the application you are purchasing.

I don't think its fair to cherry pick the specific features you personally require and expect some sort of discount.

Think on the bright side, you'll be able to recoup your investment with a simple recompile of your GP2X for PDA's ;)

You actually just need the SDK Lite and NET addon to develop for gp2x.

As a user, I too think the price of glbasic represents good value. I originally just bought the SDK + NET addon for use on the gp2x, but since then I've actually done more projects for my pc and recently bought the 3D addon too. It's all excellent, I'm always amazed just how easily I can get something up an running.

PJBonoVox: just check out the demo, it's fully featured. You'll see just how easy it is to put together some working code, and see that it justifies the asking price.

Thanks for the info. The £50 price tag is just too steep for me. While I realise it's actually good value for some, I genuinely don't want to recompile my applications for Windows, Linux or PDA's and I'm not interested in 3D :)

However the 41euros for Lite + Net is much more bearable. I don't plan to make any commercial games, just some small games. I didn't realise that adding the Net package would give me stuff I need :)

I think I will exhaust the demo then buy as long as it can do what I need :)

That's exactly the way to go. Try the demo until you really, really see what you get for the money.
