Bug Reports / Fail Fast Exception

I've recently bought a new Windows 10 laptop and installed the latest version of GLB on it.

I'm getting frequent Windows pop-up boxes, stating "Fail Fast Exception", as seen in the attachment, when I compile some code. The code still runs and GLB doesn't terminate.

Anybody else getting/had/overcome this?

I never had it on my old Windows 10 machine and I only get it with GLB.

Any ideas?

Bug Reports / Anyone having input issues with the latest update(14.497)?

Anyone having keyboard delays/misses with the latest update of GLB (v14.497).

I'm writing a text based adventure game that worked fine before updating and going back to 12.XXX works well, but sometimes keys repeat, delay or are missed completely. Anyone else seeing similar behaviour?

Announcements / PuzzlePix Xmas 2015 - Christmas puzzler

Here's a quick single level logic puzzle game just in time for Christmas.

The basic aim of the game is to uncover an image using just the numeric clues. Play is with mouse only.   Please read the Read Me within the .zip for fuller details of how to play.

[Forgot to say that the ticks within the palette indicate that a move is available on that colour layer.]


This is a WIP and therefore lacks some features, has possible bugs etc.

Off Topic / Fancy devving for a Nintendo console? Well now you can. Perhaps. Maybe. Well...

Rumours are rife that Nintendo's next console (codenamed NX), will be Android based in a deliberate attempt to encourage developers to create for the machine.

Obviously I'd take this with a big bucket of salt and a "Yeah, right!" kind of attitude, but you never know, especially since Nintendo is now focusing more on mobile tech and releasing key characters and IPs (via DeNA) onto iOS and Android devices starting later this year/early next. Nintendo desperately need 3rd party supporters and have encouraged more indies recently, especially since Unity now supports WiiU and 3DS.

If true, then GLB could be in a great position to offer development opportunities for Nintendo

GLBasic - en / webOS question re: external files

I know webOS is dead but someone might know of a solution to a stupid problem.

I'm working on a dictionary app for someone with dyslexia and need to save a simple .txt file that can be accessed by a Windows pc when I plug the phone into it (to update the word/definition list).

Surprisingly saving .txt files using PLATFORMINFO$"DOCUMENTS" or "APPDATA" encrypts them and they can't be opened/used by external devices. The program spits out the .txt file on all other devices (including Android), but webOS hides it. It is created and I can access it via the program, but it's not visible outside of the "walled garden."

Has anybody come across this before and is there a solution that will allow reading of the file?

Beta Tests / Android help - new device and .APK brings up error message.

I've just got my first proper Android device (ignoring OUYA and GameStick) and have created a small dictionary program for a dyslexic work colleague.

No matter what I do I can't get the .APK to run. It installs, but when run I get an error message - "Unfortunately, dictionary has stopped."

I can install and run the GameStick version of AquaVenture on the device, but this dictionary.apk fails. I've tried cutting the program right back to a white screen saying "Hello" and it still fails.

I've tried signed and unsigned .APKs and ensured that Dev options are on etc. without much luck

Now as I'm new to proper Android I'm sure I've made a mistake somewhere along the line. Can someone test the attached on their device or give an idea why it might be failing.

Got this email today from HP

webOS Cloud Services to end January 15, 2015
Cloud services support for webOS devices will end on January 15, 2015. We appreciate the effort that our developer community has contributed to the webOS platform. However, it has been more than three (3) years since the last device was sold. Since only a small fraction of the devices are still connecting to our cloud, the time has come to close the services.

The remaining webOS devices will continue to run after the cloud services are terminated. However, they will no longer be able to:

    Download new apps or updates. The HP App Catalog will be unavailable after the shutdown
    Backup or restore devices from the cloud
    Setup new devices
    Recover lost passwords

What this means to developers

    As of the date of this announcement, no new apps can be submitted to the HP App Catalog
    You can submit updates to the HP App Catalog until November 10, 2014
    Sales will be allowed until November 1st, 2014 in order to give users ample time to access apps prior to the shutdown. Note that the front page of the HP App Catalog will have an announcement about the impending shutdown
    Developers will need to access the Developer Portal before it is shut down on January 15, 2015, to access and download final sales reports, etc.
    Final developer payouts are expected to be made by February 15, 2015

Beta Tests / New Puzzle Game WIP

Here's a small WIP demo of a new puzzle game I'm working on called PixeLink.

The aim of the game is to link cells with the same number and colour to form a picture.

The game is mouse only. To play just click on a number and draw a line to a cell with the same number and colour. The line does not have to be straight. Going back over the line you've drawn will erase it. To remove a fully placed trail (if it's not correct) hold the left mouse button over the piece.

This game is still very much WIP and has no niceties like title screen, sfx or music. It's likely to have plenty of bugs too - if you spot them and can replicate them, then I'd love to know about them.

The cells are quite small and I'm toying with making them a bit larger (in fact I've done 2 other versions with different size cells (2x and 1.5x), but I keep coming back to this one as I can see the whole picture without scrolling.

The game will be released on pc and Pandora.
