Title: GLBasic v16 STEAM-VERSION out now!
Post by: Schranz0r on 2019-Jan-08
Now it's time for the next step of GLBasic!

GLBasic v16 hit the Steam-Market right now.
And thats not all:

Gernot decided to give the lowered price (from ~70€ to ~42€) a -50% discount!
You can get the Steamversion for 20.99€ right now (till 14th of January)

perhaps a silly question, but what exactly is the advantage of the Steam version?
Or is it just because this is the way GLBasic is developed further?

For those who already have it out of steam, could they have a steam key, how it's often made when a product is out on steam after a release out of it ?

I asked Kitty directly some days ago.No answer till now.

It would make sense so we can post positive reviews from seasoned devs.
I made a post on twitter about the release.

hopefully get lots of retweets if i leave it at top for a week ;0)

first at all we need to get Gernot to request those keys. Im personly would have repurchased it for supporting, but im cant do that due im is set as developer here (even im is just a advanced developer). This is property will take some days. But in first place im wanted this got released. Rest can follow. That include demo and all.

You can still use v14 and v15 long time me thinks, and some of my games still use v14 (but is compiled with v15 now).

And what is now better with v16?
Title: Re: GLBasic v16 STEAM-VERSION out now!

I bought GLBasic with version 4 or 5 and until then all updates were for free. So I have no problem so sell 20 Euro or even more for the V16 Update.

But for me it's still not clear, which differences are between V15 and earlier and the Steam version 16. I guess there is none but the fact, that GLBasic is now delivered via Steam?
Title: Re: GLBasic v16 STEAM-VERSION out now!

Its a minor update really and Windows 64bit is a new target.

The main advancemts its more behind in the hood. Etc adminstration is quite easier, since all licenses, purchasing and updates is now more automatic and Gernot does not need to activate them manual anymore. All those is handed by steam!

Updates is only required to update the changed files and is also no longer require to upload the whole thing again and again. This is the part im really like Steam. That is the maintain is simply just easier.

Currecrly me and Gernot can update files.

You can fully still use glbasic 15 if you want to do that. No problems. Im hopefully Gernot does request keys to you that want it. But this is not my job, that is Gernot really.

ok thanks for the info spacefractal.

I'm not that familiar with steam keys. For my understanding every developer can request them at Steam for free for his own developments, isn't it?
Title: Re: GLBasic v16 STEAM-VERSION out now!

or even selling them, if he want to do. Im do have no permissions to request them.

Howover we got a nice review in chineses.

GLBasic can be used for traditional software development, not just games.

There are many sample files in the Samples folder for reference.

The shortcomings are also obvious. The IDE is too simplistic, and it looks like a product of the 1990s.

However, the price is very cheap, and the combination is still very good value.

After all, you can't find the second tool on the steam that can both play games and make traditional software.

thanks  :booze:

he's right, the IDE might look old fashioned, but it's easy to use and so it shall be.

So Steam will be only official way to get GLBasic and future updates, or v16 will be also available as standalone app like now and will follow within few days here too?
On one hand it would be nice to get Steam key as long-time user, on other hand Steam algorithms separate users that bought product directly on platform from those who got it from other sources...

Google Translator is sufficient for such basic review translation :D

I am undecided whether to release GLBasic as a non-steam version. Maybe yes, but at a slightly higher price.
What do you think?
I requested promo keys and will put some in the bonus forum as soon as they are available.

My idea is  : To support the product and the development of it, instead of giving a Steam key to the "already owners" of the product, just let them have the same coupon as now (50 %) on the steam version they could buy when they want :-) and not only before January the 14th (a coupon that never expire). In this case 2 benefits :

- They can have the last version for 20 bucks instead of the full price because they already owned the old version.
- They continue supporting the dev and release of the product giving a reasonable amount of money for it.
- You can have some fees for your (very good) work and continue working on it.

Just an idea.

I tried to purchase yesterday evening, sold with Paypal, everything looks good, but nothing happened. No Steam Download, no Paypal transaction was done ...
did anyone already successfully get GLB V16 on Steam?
Title: Re: GLBasic v16 STEAM-VERSION out now!
Post by: spacefractal on 2019-Jan-09
Gernot, this is your call :-). Im have also requeste large batch of keys (10000+) without problem. her you might not need to request more about 2-300 steam keys me  thinks. But you can also selling keys here on your shop if you want. here you get full cut (etc Vavle take 30% cut on steam sale as most other companies does).

Some of us want to repurchase for supporting you, but not all want to do this throught. Im would example if im could do it, but do allready own it.

Awesome, steam is big-time, GLBasic is on the map!

Happy to buy the v16 licence!
one thing I would really like GLB to do is PRINTING (even in some small way) - I know it's not game dev as such - but then the framework would be adaptable for many more needs too!
Even a PDF generating feature

Just bought and working fine, under Vmware with Windows 10... Runs fine I test the 3d Torus with reflection and I had 500 FPS. :-*

But i see the platforms for compile and I only see Windows and DLL, we don't have more Android Linux or another thing will not be Windows?¿, I read something about Apple, but I don't have nothing of interest in Apple.

Hi All,

I don't know if you remember me, it is quite some time since I have posted here. I hope everyone is well. It is good to see many familiar faces still active and posting.  :)
Anyway, Congratulations on the Steam release, I hope it does well and Gernot is well rewarded.

Because of my work, and that I am required to develop in another environment, I only tinker with GLBasic once in a while for fun now.
However, I am going to buy the Steam version now to support GLB. If nothing else, it will give me an excuse to play with GLB and maybe start a small project again.

Regards,
Dave

BTW, I owe much gratitude to Gernot, and others who I learned from here. I started with GLB as a novice wanting to learn programming, and gained skills and confidence with GLB that I now use working professionally as a programmer. Thanks to all here, and especially Gernot!!!  :)

Apple have depreacted OpenGL (Yes, quite vital), so all Apple platforms is no longer possible :-(, Apple did it that for you!

Google is not much better, they have pretty much depreacted many of standalone Android SDK stuff, in that way, they are no longer possible to been used for newer Android versions, which force us to move to Android Studio. Also with 64bit requirements around in the corner as well (glbasic its self works fine in 64bit, its more the binaries its use for Android that is currectly a issue).....

This is also why im currectly is still burned off Android and iOS stuff for the above reasons (its was more me that more or less maintain those platforms, which im cant no longer do it alone). Im did tried to port it to Android Studio, but is still not succesfull, but might trying again after the vaccation.

So this is why as im really hope we get a good JavaScript/HTML5 platform (is being worked on), which is the most combatible system out here for today devices and possible to use various wrappers! Its should been a great platform for ports (include Apple machines)!

PS. You can still download the missing targets them from the main glbasic webpage, even im/Gernot have not updated them in a while.

thanks spacefractal in fact mobile devices not interested me too much (I think the markets are dead ), and we have Godot Engine now for mobile.
Don't worry I know you did a lot or work with GLbasic.

Thanks Gernot,

I just found them, and saw HTML5 was in the list. I was hoping it would be, I can make use of that one. It has been a while since I played with GLBasic, but the v16 Steam Release has prompted me to play with it, and I have been having a great time.

Dave

There are a lot of questions in the steam forum. May be you should be more precise about compile targets : https://steamcommunity.com/app/819510/discussions/0/3300476731145632949/

May be someone could answer better than me, and may be update the store page to be more precice about that.

I'm also got one key requests. Currecrly I'm can do nothing since I'm have no permission to request them and I'm should also not get the permissions as well.this gernot product.

Also my  self I'm can't repurchase my self, since I'm was allready a owner and a go developer so I'm could help him with the steam release. Howover some assets should been updated me thinks, but I'm did a shorter trailer.

I'm did wanted to add some Ian price games. Found Blox, but require a update to the code.

Just wondering - did you purposely only add desktop games into the trailer? was this so users would not expect mobile features?

No, I just didn't happen to have better videos available - I am quite short on spare time and the STEM release cost me quite some grey hair.
However... [drumroll] it seems to have paid. I never expected this large impact.

Portrait games is a nogo on steam trailers as such. But it's OK for me to use a portrait game with a border to fill a full HD resolutions. Many of the videos was also in too low bit rate as well...

I'm do happy to show more games througt.

One small install problem. When I installed the Steam version, it asked me where I wanted to put the Samples folder. I chose a non-default folder ("C:\Development\") and  it was copied there fine. But the File menu in the IDE had the "Samples" menu option greyed out from that point and unusable. Maybe confusing for noobies looking for samples?

Just noticed the vid on Youtube and linked through to Steam - need to follow the forums more often than I do :-[

I've been working on the free version for a while after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when I couldn't find my GLB registration code after reinstalling - my current project is 2D only so its not been a problem.

It's a good opportunity to repurchase though and support the product development. Will re-buy v16 this afternoon and drop a review on the Steam site.

Hopefully this gets GLB into the spotlight and boosts the community.

OtakuMaker SARL is closing down and is removed all my games in thier bundles (one is still remaining).

What do you thinks if all of us do a "Glbasic: Games Bundle", etc the list you see in the glbasic steam forum.

Also both my TimeKillers games is now free on Steam, but im is gonna to add a "Donation" DLC (which few have used) for Spot Race, and later for CatchOut.

Im do also consider im should release the source code? Even its mightbeen in mix of danish and english and could been documented much better for both TimeKillers games?

Hi SF,

That's a pity about Otaku publisher...
Why not do a a new Greedy Mouse game (if not done already)?
You could post to all your previous buyers that the new game is coming etc.?

Because its not possible to do anything more with the graphics at all, which is rather special (its was all done with real clay and was not cheated at all). Anders Klok is currectly busy with thier motion capture suit as well they also soon waiting a child. Yep, Time flies. But currectly im have no plans do anything more to that game, even its was fun! Steam was a nice market for that game and phinged in right time.

But im do perfer do another game with a another theme. PowerUp Elevation was the newest one im did code my self. Im do should do more stages to that game.

But currectly recently did some AY music work for various Spectrum Next games with Micheal Ware (as well Jim Bagley): Baggers in Space is pretty much finished (only require final testing), and he is now working to get Warhawk done as well Revival Survival (fun little arcade game, based on a Windows version that was newer finished). So Spectrum Next is quite delayed, but they did do the keyboard finally down and is soon can been mass produced, also while waiting, its does do just do have a much better sprites rutine (can display 128 sprites on a line instead of just 12) and recently a tilemap feature.

And yep this is some offtype talk, and property im should split this thread, where im started it about the bundle.
