Title: Cydia "plugins"
Post by: ampos on 2012-Feb-14
Here is a list of (great) programs to install on iOS with Cydia:

-SBSettings: creates a custom drop down menu (similar to iOS5 notification system)

-Intelliscren (iOS 4) or InstelliscreenX (iOS 5): See in the LockScreen your emails, dates, facebook...

-AdBlocker

-BTSatck GPS: connect to external GPS receivers

-CardSwitcher: multitask as in WebOS

-Five Icon Dock: put 5 icons in the dock.

-Folder Closer: autoclose folders after app launch

-iFile: File Manager and viewer, in any iOS folder.

-No Spot: remove the spot (search) screen

-ProTube: great sustitute of YoutTube app.

-SBBrightness: place a brightness slider to homescreen.

-SpringFlash: fast flashlight (I set it to double click in "power" button)

All this plugins are installed using Cydia on a Jailbroken iOS device. Notice that Jailbroking a iOS device is not illegal, as a recent US sentence said.

I would jailbreak my 3GS, but am worried at some point in the future Apple might backtrack and wham there goes ability to compile to it or release to app store. Or am I a bit paranoid?

Cheers

One thing i would like to know if it is possible to compile and sign to a JB device from windows?

yes. We are able to do that.

Ang on. I thought this was something you were working on a while back but it got sort of dropped. Is it back again then (maybe for GLB11)?

One other thing with JB. I heard you can have proper multitasking like Android. To be honest I don't really want that as it feels like you have to streamline things like a PC now and again to make things run faster. But what is it like on the battery and also does it have easier ways of turning off things like bluetooth and possibly profiles (eg. if at work or at night then turn off bluetooth).

Cheers

I don't know what is "multitask as in Android"; there is a plugin called "backgrounder" but I never worried about it. Perhaps it is what you are looking for.

SBSettings brings you fast-action buttons to enable/disable very fast any iOS thing: bluetooth, wifi, airplane, auto-rotation,...

About installing apps without a Mac...

If you can generate (unsigned) IPAs, you can. Just copy the (unsigned) IPA to Install0us folder and install. Notice it is the same procedure to install pirated IPAs, so perhaps this info is not allowed on this forum.

yes. We are able to do that.

Could you post a small tutorial on this Gernot or PM me please?

We = Trucidare & me. We have a compiler that allows that. But! In order to upload this to the app-store, the output must be compiled for armv7 (maybe needs a fat binary in order to be running on a 3Gs, still). We have to check this in detail, yet. I'm sorry all this takes so long.
But with this compiler, you can drag&drop the final .app into iTunes (on windows) and it will run on a non-jailbreak iOS device, even.

That sounds great Gernot. Well I'm not worried about the final binary as I would just recompile on the Apple, with a dev account for that. My main interest is just being able to build and test run without the Apple Mac getting in the way. I don't enjoy all the fluffing about with Mac OS just to get my code on the iPad, its a real PITA after a while. I would JB if I could avoid that step even temporarily, god, I'd sell my right testicle to be honest, for a quick compile, test and run!  :D

Hmm. How about just releasing the compiler that will allow a non-JB device to run an app made on a PC? Personally I have a Mac so don't care about the final upload to app-store bit as I can do that already, but being able to put an app straight onto my testing iDevice from my Windows laptop would be pretty cool. Especially as WebOS sinks (plus there are slight differences) below the waterline...

Plus it would allow a lot more testing of apps on different idevices between people here who don't have a mac (or JB device) by just sending them the .app file and getting them to copy it over in iTunes.

Cheers

How about it Gernot? If it's ready to go now then would be a major addition to GLB if you ask me. App store releasing from Windows can be in the future but considering most of us have bought Macs for this very reason we don't really care :) Easy to use iDevices to test from Windows yes please! :)

Out of interest my iDevices are attached to my Mac's iTunes. Can I also use a Windows iTunes to work with it, allowing me to copy the .app file to the iDevice without any worries? Or is it not that simple? Would really want to keep my devices synced to the Mac if I can get away with it.

Cheers

You can sync to 2 computers with no problem.
I see if I can pack the compiler into the next update.

Excellent! Nice one! Would love to be able to test out on iPhone while on my laptop watching the TV :)
