DIGITAL PHOTO FRAME for WebOS

I ahve sent to HP my app, but they said it can not find photos.

I would like you to test it on your device.

It will read photos from 3 places:

-Camera folder, not on mobile devices (in fact, inside the /DCIM folder)

-Facebook. Only if your device has downloaded previously FB photos. Only tested this in TP.

-Photos inside a folder called "photos" in the main directory of the device. Example: g:/photos/myphoto.jpg. Please, use photos lower than 4096x4096 on TP. It can read photos inside folders also.

The app has work on my TP and my Pre2, should work on any other WebOS device but Pixi.

Thank you for your feedback.

Not had time yet I'm afraid - and I've only got a couple of photos on my Pre2, none of which I want displayed.
I came. I saw. I played.

Crivens

Yeah, I haven't really had the time yet. Sorry. I'm out tomorrow but for a fast test how do you install the app manually on a WebOS device?

Preware? Is it an app you download from Preware to install your own app or is just installable from Preware directly? Haven't really looked into Preware since OCing the TP and don't even use it on the Pre2.

ampos

Yeah, in Preware.

I installed a program that is a file browser. When I click on a ipk file, it opens another program, don't know how it is called (I thing it is preware itself), that is the one that really install the file.

Use QuickInstall - it's the biz. Use it on your pc to transfer any .IPK files to any webOS device.

I need you all TP users to test it, and know if you have Preware installer or not.

It is driving me crazy, as HP contiunes saying "it closes as soon as I touch the screen"

I have asked them to run it from novacom and check/sent me the log, as I dont know what is falling.

Ok I installed it on my TP. There is an option in Preware to install a package (top left drop down) so I did it that way.

Ok so it didn't detect anything when I first ran it. I have the Facebook exhibition app which has shown pictures but I don't know if they download and stay or just get downloaded to show at the time. Either way it didn't find them automatically.

So I followed the instructions from your app and basically dragged a load of our avatar pictures from this forum onto the photos folder.

The good news is I got several to show but not all of them. Lets see.... It was all the jpg ones. The png ones were ignored. Well I think they were attempted as it sits there with a black screen for a bit and then you get one of the jpgs again. I take it it's all random rather than sequential? Is there an option to make it sequential? Should put one in. Plus make an option that shows the name of the file. That way you can know for sure it is trying to show the photo but failing (black screen). Really though if all it's doing is showing a black screen then it should realise this and skip the photo completely rather than showing a black screen for a bit. An option to remove the clock would be good too.

Oh and to replicate try dragging Kitty's avatar picture into the photos folder. It won't show. If it isn't a PNG thing and that's just a coincidence then my avatar worked, so did yours, and so did Qubes. Kittys doesn't work, neither does the GLB logo, mentalthink doesn't, nor does that white and red cube avatar.

I have no photos on my TP, no patches, no Preware or internalz stuff.

I can confirm that the app closes when you tap the screen once you get to the instructions screen.

I used the newest (I think) QuickInstall (4.3.1).

I just noticed that the app doesn't create a "Photos" folder (well, I can't see it via USB mode). Perhaps this is the problem? I'll create one now and update.

Yep, that's the problem. Once I created this folder and put some photos in the app appeared to work properly.
I came. I saw. I played.

Crivens

That happened to me too, but if you then create a photos directory (it says this on the help screen that shows if you have no photos) on the device and plonk some photos (I think JPGs only work as my PNGs sit there with a black screen by the looks of things) in there then it will not show this screen and cycle through the pictures.

Ampos, if I was you I would *always* have a couple of stock images to cycle. That way HP can move on and look at how to add your own photos. Maybe have a more obvious big note that just says "YOU HAVE NO PICS OF YOUR OWN. TOUCH QUESTION MARK TO FIND OUT HOW TO ADD SOME!". Have an "OK" button and then start cycling the stock images.

At the end of the day though they might not like the whole manual process of creating a directory when a USB drive and moving photos etc. Dunno.

I actually missed the text in point 2 (seeing only the image with Photos folder highlighted)! Don't expect the everyday user to read instructions! I didn't and obviously the Review team didn't, either.

Your app really should create the "Photos" folder itself and limit what the user needs to do.

I agree with Crivens, you should save a photo or two into the Photos folder, even if it's just a couple of "Digital Photo Frame" images (or adverts for other apps).
I came. I saw. I played.

ampos

Thanks guys, this really helps.

Ian, if I understand correctly, the app opens and display a screen that says "how to save photos" and once you touch, the app closes.

This is how it is been done and the way it is designed.

-you dont have photos -> display a help screen with instructions -> when te user touch, close the app (you dont have photos to be displayed anyway!)

Im thinking that the reviewer is GILIPOLLAS

why dont he read the help screen displayed on the screen????

Anyway, you gave me some ideas, as creating the photo folder and cooying there a few ad-screens...

The png support was removed

Facebook photos are downloaded by "photos and video" app, and saved at "/internal/media/.photosapp/com.facebook.com/your@facebook.com"

Who was the reviewer that sent you the failure email? Was it Lisa Brewster?

I can vouch for the reviewers (at least LB) being assholes; Mined Out! was failed because the reviewer couldn't place a flag on a revealed number. When I stated that this wasn't possible in ANY Minesweeper game, she replied, "Oh you're right", but didn't turn the rejection around. I had to re-submit and wait another week.

Ampos, just do as Crivens and I suggested - create the folder from the app and save an internal image (or two) to the folder. One of theese photos could actually state that the user needs to import their own photos. This way you actually don;t need to use the "Help" screen.
