That is an ancient portuguese version, the english one goes by ace of aces, and inside, it looks like the pic attached.
Really funky, you play with a friend (that´s why it cames in two), so each chooses a maneuver on the plane, there is some math and the final page for each comes out, really nice.

edit: I do believe these books paved my love for Wings from cinemaware back on the amiga days.

Sorry for being off-topic, but I thought I'd mention that these books were recently kickstarted successfully and should be available soon-ish on the Flying Buffalo Ace Of Aces page if people are interested.

Any indication of what's in it, beyond "some of my very old (and possibly early) GLBasic routines, ranging for the The Grid game to a messaging system"?  A contents page, perhaps?

I'm one of the people who have bought the books but are yet to buy GLBasic. Sorry about that (great books though). Getting there...

Just because it got specifically mentioned in your reply,  I use Cyanogenmod on my Galaxy S2 and I find it boots faster,  uses less battery and provides me with a wealth of configuration options that make everything just feel.... better.  :-)

Australians tend to call chickens chucks - not sure if that's just a slang word or that's the generic term over there, instead of chicken.

At the risk of getting bogged down in this     the Australian term is "chooks" (rhymes with "books") and is a slang term for chickens - of either gender.

I bought all three of them.  I guess I should probably read them at some point.

At the risk of sounding spiteful, I was in a (proper bricks-and-mortar) store yesterday where they were selling them out for $AU98 (€71 ₤61) and I was in a position to grab one.  Thankfully - given that before the price drop I had no interest in it whatsoever, and I really had no actual use for one - I talked myself out of it... but it was close.  Soooo close...

If only I had the wherewithal I would have been happy to buy a whole heap for everybody and sell them on... with a *cough* nominal markup.

Sorry for the delay - I was at work before, and... now am not. 

I was concerned I wouldn't be able to replicate the problem here on my home computer (it's somewhat more capable), but luckily (?!) your original test code didn't work here either.  Did the same as before, but now I'm running on WinXP SP3 with an nVidia GTS250 (1GB of memory on it).

If it makes you feel any better at all, as far as I can tell the second test you posted (just the font test) seemed to work perfectly.  No weird letters or anything (see attached).

I'm not sure if this is helpful to you or not, but I stumbled across this thread and just for fun I thought I'd download your test file and see what happened.

Downloaded, extracted, run.  Got the screenshot.  WinXP SP3, nVidia Geforce 7300 SE.
