WIZ - RPG Dice thingy

QuoteNerds will definitely let me know if I'm wrong
...and in that spirit, I registered just to tell you that...
QuoteThe multipliers perform their action on every die, not on the total of all the dice once rolled. So if you use 5 dice and +10, then you will get +10 on EACH one of the dice, so you get results plus 50 as the total. I think.
...this is incorrect.  Typically if it says something like 2d5+2 it means you add the modifier (as its known) to the total of the dice thrown.

Nice simple app, btw - although the PC version doesn't seem to make sound for me.  And heya  :booze: from another Blitzer.

On my laptop I don't get sound either, but on my main desktop I do and my Wiz. It seems to be an .ogg issue that either affects you or it doesn't. The sound isn't great anyway, so you're not missing much. I'll change the .ogg files to .WAV - that'll sort it. :)

Actually, the method used in this app is correct according to the "EACH DIE" rule. Your method uses the "TOTAL SUM" rule. Both methods are apparently accepted rules. However, it would appear that the "TOTAL SUM" method may well be most common.

I'll add the option to decide which the player wants. "EACH DIE" or "TOTAL SUM"

If you go to http://rpg.norwinter.com/konkret/ you can see both methods being used. In other apps I've used, they only used "each die" method, which I followed.

Expect an update later :)

Update - this now uses the SUM rather than EACH DIE modifier.

Totals should be as expected now. I did add an option for choosing which modifer method to use, but it cluttered the screen, so I removed it. The code is all in, but de-activated. If it's required, then I can post a further update, but here's how it did look - http://www.iprice.remakes.org/my_stuff/dicey04.PNG

I forgot to make the sounds .WAV. Will do later.

Odd about the .ogg issue - I've never had anything not play because it's an .ogg before, but if it's one of those things...

I stand corrected about the dice total issue.  I guess it depends on what game you're playing, but I've not personally encountered (or heard of) a game that uses the 'each die' method you've described.  I accept it's possible I don't know everything about everything though.  It's possible.   ;)

I know less than you do about RPGs and the dices TBH! I downloaded and played a few dice rolling apps (which I've since deleted) and they pretty much all did the "Each Die" scoring routine as standard, hence why I went with that one.

The .ogg sound problem is indeed odd. I brought it up a while back, but just supposed it was my machine. It plays .ogg files fine in other apps, but not with GLBasic stuff. My desktop pc plays them fine though, as does my Wiz and GP2X. There is a German thread about it here - http://www.glbasic.com/forum/index.php?topic=3368.0 but I can't find my thread (search seems buggered). So we are not alone!
