Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

strange I had a hot discussion today with a few friends on the issue "selling a movie".
This sentence resumes it all. at least IMO.

discussion was about trying to sell a project(idea) while we have a few DONE movies.
I would go for focusing on selling the DONE thing and never the project/idea.

It seems to me attempting to sell a project/idea puts you into an amateur field, while being an author, you should sell completed projects even if they seem less great then the paper work.

Of course I mean real business, if you are the governor´s son then that´s another field...

It kind of works the same on the publicity field. You do a piece an agency asked you to do. the piece is yours and you sell the numbers of use and on what media for a measured time. It seems to me on the movie field it works the same, and it also feels on the game industry it also works the same way...

soo, pitching a project for pre-selling to a funding/bank company looks like a too great step and there are wolves looking for people wanting to take such a big step...it seems to me it is better to go on on the speed you can but working with fully done apps instead of project/ideas.
At the end I can´t see good into this kind of business other then a trap for the ambitious...

Did I make any beer sense? :puke:

What do you think about that http://www.tinyco.com/tinyfund ?
What is their goal ?

their goal it to make money out of the money without doing the hard work... :P

Similar to Indie Fund, they will probably only fund games that have the potential to become a top seller, with such potential, I don´t see the reason on borrowing money in the first place.

Getting something like 100k to put up a couple projects and sharing the profit would just be perfect but I really don´t think they will buy my ideas.

I might sound pessimistic, but am not, anyone here going for this?

I thing a good selling number would be from 300 to 600 per month... if it´s possible.

128x128 sprites may even be too much, you could easily pass with less.
keep it up! :)

I´m not a pro but...

What if you have you map on a 2d array (that you could read from a data statement).
Then you use this array to paste blocks of gfx(128x128) to create a 2d image of the map.
Get this image on a distorted plane. display

if this can be done on the fly on a slow comp with a huge map, it would be fine, if not, you could try to check players position on the 2d array and display/create screen only what is visible for him, lets say a triangle from his position and facing.

I´m not sure I´m making any sense, but helping is the first amendment :)

looks great so far.

EDIT: Mario??? oh that is so cheeesy, go for xtreme racing! hehe

The X (perhaps the Y too) coordinate only start showing values when X>20 (or a number similar, not tested really) but if you move the mouse/finger to the left it can answer values <20.

You have to start not-near the left border, but then you can move to the left with no problem.

something more or less similar to wacom tablets behavior. After tracking the pen, they can even track it a little outside the tablet/screen area.

I'll also put Mined Out! on iOS - I really don't expect anything from that though.

You should.
It´s a kind of game there are a lot of addicts around the world, similar to solitaire... you can blame windows for it.

On WP7, yeah, I guess it is too early. Good thing the author has it on other platforms...

iphones has no such thing as calibrations right?...just a shot.
#3985

I still prefer to sketch/prototype on photoshop/gimp/paper but who knows...

ps: oh my... I thought it was free, never mind them... makes a good read though.

oh that is one thing I was gonna tell you about the book´s guide. command list should grouped on categories like animation/sound/etc. Amos manual was something like that.
