HP TouchPad Developer Program restarts

If you are a registered Palm/HP dev and still haven't got a TouchPad, then you could be in luck.

HP have restarted the Developer Device Program, releasing cheap TouchPads to registered devs only.

I'm haven't really followed the HP Touchpad news closely.
Are they being discontinued?
Is WebOS still being support on new devices?
If so, this is great news, and I'd buy one for sure.
Otherwise I don't need a new tablet, as I barely even use my iPad.
Thanks for the info!

The TouchPad has been discontinued.
WebOS is being supported for the foreseeable future - however nobody is saying how long that future will be. Min one year. Max one year?

You pay your money (in this case, not a lot!) and take a chance. If nothing else you can use it as an Android tablet. However, if you don't use your iPad, I doubt you'll use a TouchPad.

Plus it's awesome as a developer device. Fastest one I've used to get GLB onto a device. Plus is closest to what I see on a pc. Android takes a while to compile and transfer and had a few bugs at the minute, and iOS currently needs a 2nd mac compile (will change soon but probably still needed for Apis like iAds) plus I still can't get 3d lighting to look correct on it.

And! You can put Android on it, so you have 2 platforms in one device to test. It runs Android amazingly fast, too.
But the WebOS is much better. Especially when developing.

I wish I could afford/justify it as it does look very nice indeed and probably one of the cheapest ways to get a (decently specced) tablet.

Bah, this was on the Engaget website and universally it was seen as a method to get a tablet by pretending to be a developer. Can't even register as a developer for all the people trying to fiddle it.  :'(
Cheers,

Ian.

Thanks for the information!!!

Requested two coupons for the touchpad,
I hope they will answer and send them!  :whip:  :good:

cheers

Ian Price

I doubt they'll reply until they have the coupons ready and have worked out  who should receive them. There will be a lot of interest.

Give them time to sort these things out.

Hm this is very interesting.. I sent an email, just cuz I can't wait to get my hands on another tablet to test my game on :) I was thinking android before but hey, a $150 tablet would be much easier to swallow than a $4-500 one.

You can use it as an Android tablet too :)
