If you are a registered Palm/HP dev and still haven't got a TouchPad, then you could be in luck.
HP have restarted the Developer Device Program, releasing cheap TouchPads to registered devs only.

I'm haven't really followed the HP Touchpad news closely.
Are they being discontinued?
Is WebOS still being support on new devices?
If so, this is great news, and I'd buy one for sure.
Otherwise I don't need a new tablet, as I barely even use my iPad.
Thanks for the info!
The TouchPad has been discontinued.
WebOS is being supported for the foreseeable future - however nobody is saying how long that future will be. Min one year. Max one year?
You pay your money (in this case, not a lot!) and take a chance. If nothing else you can use it as an Android tablet. However, if you don't use your iPad, I doubt you'll use a TouchPad.
Plus it's awesome as a developer device. Fastest one I've used to get GLB onto a device. Plus is closest to what I see on a pc. Android takes a while to compile and transfer and had a few bugs at the minute, and iOS currently needs a 2nd mac compile (will change soon but probably still needed for Apis like iAds) plus I still can't get 3d lighting to look correct on it.
Cheers
And! You can put Android on it, so you have 2 platforms in one device to test. It runs Android amazingly fast, too.
But the WebOS is much better. Especially when developing.
I wish I could afford/justify it as it does look very nice indeed and probably one of the cheapest ways to get a (decently specced) tablet.
Bah, this was on the Engaget website and universally it was seen as a method to get a tablet by pretending to be a developer. Can't even register as a developer for all the people trying to fiddle it. :'(

I dont understand you. I have been even contacted (personally) by a hp guy about this, inviting me to request a TP...
Tried 4 times to register, no email reply.
Register where? It is just "sent an email with your login name at devmarketing@palm.com"
they never replied poor brazilian jack... :(
It would be a nice extra platform to get things going.
Thanks for the information!!!
Requested two coupons for the touchpad,
I hope they will answer and send them! :whip: :good:
cheers
I doubt they'll reply until they have the coupons ready and have worked out who should receive them. There will be a lot of interest.
Give them time to sort these things out.
Hm this is very interesting.. I sent an email, just cuz I can't wait to get my hands on another tablet to test my game on :) I was thinking android before but hey, a $150 tablet would be much easier to swallow than a $4-500 one.

You can use it as an Android tablet too :)
Sign up as a dev is asking me for tax codes etc and I don't have one - not that I know about anyway.
If you don't know your tax code then you'll need to visit/contact your local tax office.
Yeah I was noticing that as well.. since my partner and I haven't registered our company yet, I wasn't able to finish that registration. I still sent off an email without my account being 'upgraded' with that section..
If you aren't looking to start a company, I would imagine you could use your individual number, whatever is relevant for your country. (i.e. Social Security Number in the US, or Social Insurance Number for us in Canada)
Or contact the IRS for an SSI number (or something like that). It takes a few months though via post
The programme has now ended. HP will contact people once they've gone through the requests.

Oh no ;/ Far more requests than devices.. I probably won't get one then, ah well.. maybe I'll wait for whatever new batch of tablets will come out in awhile..
Well if anyone asked for two codes, or has one they don't need for some other reason then TCKSOFT would appreciate it. :-*
did anyone get a confirmation email?
Did anyone here actually apply? I didn't, as I don't need another TP.
Yes, I requested 2 coupons, for my friends, and no, I have not received any confirmation email.
This is starting to smell like market research.
Heh, yes I've been thinking the same about it since it all started, but now that they have gone silent after gathering data you can't help but think it's more and more like truth.
