I think apple need to sort out some kind of filtering anyway.  Not sure how though to be honest.
I was looking at a game the other day (unfortunately cant remember which one).

It had excellent review after excellent review and then the last review was from someone who put "total crap" 1 star, which was obviously not true.
This apps rating was then 4.5 stars and not 5.  This can really damage devs. and it really frustrates me that anybody can just leave totally random, trolling reviews.

Lol.  I knew I had read it somewhere  :-[
Note to self...read previous posts

I suppose its a fair point on the 250,000 users.
I think the best way to defeat the piracy issue which has been going on since the c64 and before,  is to forget about it, many people have tried and failed.
Its just one of those things.  It will happen no matter what you do.

Just make sure you have plenty of marketing in your game and hope it spreads the word to people who have better morals and may want to buy it

i will see if i can find the link, but i recently read the link where a developer used humour against the pirates.  Basically if it detected a pirate version, the skins on the characters turned to pirates instead of proper characters.

Dam!  All those years ago, I sold my c64, with 1541 disk drive, action replay cartridge, all the works and a box full of old routines demos etc. to fund my amiga 500.......and afterall that I couldn't get on with the assembler on the amiga and coded very little compared to my 64 days.

i Knew I should have kept the 64 :(
Parents advice of "Well if you want a new one you will have to sell your old one" is biting me in the bum now  :'(

Thanks Blackway.

I thought of this as an option, but then realised just how much of a task it is and wondered whether it will fall into my lap anyway :)
I think you are onto something there though. I am meeting up tomorrow with them so I will know more then about the whole project and their expectations etc.

I have been approached to write an iphone app for a local business.  They would like it to go onto the app store (which is fine), but my question is this.

Would I need to specify in the contract a minimum hosting term and then charge them app hosting after that time?
Would I charge them a yearly hosting charge anyway?

The reason I ask, is that at the moment the apple developers license is paid for and will be for the forseeable future, but what happens in, lets say 3 years, if I decide not to develop for iPhone anymore and don't pay the developers fee.  AT this point there app would no longer be for sale in the app store.

Should they be paying $99 a year to have an app hosted on the app store?  Seems a bit wrong somehow.

Have any of you come across this before or have any ideas?

Cheers

ok thx for the heads up.

I will cancel the order and get a decent one.
Seemed like a bargain, but as they say "If it seems to good to be true....it usually is!"
