Anyone used this? Can it export to GL-Basic usable format? :-)

QuoteDear Caligari community member,

Today is an important day in the 23 year history of trueSpace. We are
releasing a major upgrade to our flagship product with trueSpace7.6,
bringing significant improvements in modeling, animation, rendering and
workflows, plus new direct export to Virtual Earth. Most of these you might
already expect if you've been following my regular Captain's Blog posts at
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...read.php?t=893.
What you may not expect is that we are making trueSpace7.6 available to
everyone at no charge, in a giant step forward to bring high-end 3D
authoring tools to all who want them!

trueSpace7.6 is far more than a SketchUp-style 3D architectural modeling
tool. Instead, it provides a complete 3D authoring environment for any
type of 3D content creation, whether that's images, animations, objects
for games, or content or worlds for online interactive shared spaces.
trueSpace7.6's modeling tools feature a variety of surface representations
including full polygonal editing, subdivision surface modeling, NURBS,
metaballs, and implicit surfaces. Those are supported by400+ modeling
tools like real-time Boolean operations with full construction history so
you can move subtracted parts of your design at any time during your work,
or even change a subtraction to an intersection.

trueSpace 7.6 also provides advanced surfacing tools like layered
materials, texture maps, normal maps, procedural materials, UVE
projections, real-time DX9 pixel shaders that include shaders to simulate
subsurface scattering, reflection, refraction, smoke, fire, water,
anisotropicshader, metallic paint, glass – and those are just the
real-time shaders!

The animation capabilities are even more impressive.trueSpace7.6 supports
key-frame and motion capture animation on fully hierarchical objects.
Key-frame animations can be seamlessly blended with procedural animations
and physical simulations, all of which can fully interact with each other.
This means you can have a walking character animated by key-frames getting
hit by a procedurally animated car and fly away in response to the
collision thanks to physical simulation.

In trueSpace7.6 you can also create fully articulated characters and
interact with them using full body IK with editable direct manipulation
widgets for joints (including physical stiffness), and apply physics
oranimated morphs for facial expressions.

If you want to create a photorealisticimagesor a video, then the built-in
Lightworks high quality offline renderer will give you spectacular
rendering results including soft shadows, raytracing, global illumination
in form of hybrid radiosity, image based lighting, caustics, tone mapping,
HDRI, anisotropic reflectance,multi-pass rendering to Photoshop layers,
motion blur, depth of field, lens flares etc.

trueSpace's award-winning direct manipulation interface with its
easy-to-use 2D controls and 3D widgets has always been highly praised by
users and press alike. For version 7.6 we have streamlined many workflows
in extensive collaboration with our Beta testers. The UI is context-based
and fully configurable, including toolbars, panels, widgets, layouts and
projects. With universal drag-and-drop you can simply drop your model from
the 3D workspace directly into an e-mail, written document, etc, and vice
versa, clicking on the object in an e-mail will automatically open it in
trueSpace.

There are also a series of advanced editors. In addition to the 3D
workspace and modeling editors, there are a universal 2D node link editor,
a script editor,a non-linear animation editor, a material editor, a UV
editor, and more. Plug-ins are now accessible from the real-time 3D
workspace and we expect to release truly amazing plug-ins for trueSpace7.6
in the near future, as well as stimulate 3rd party creation of independent
products both free and commercial thanks to the availability of an SDK.
Finally, trueSpace7.6 is the only 3D authoring tool on the market which
will allow you do all of the above in real-time shared 3D collaborative
spaces where members of the design or animation team can maintain
real-time interaction from anywhere in the world.

We are taking the unprecedented step of making these tools available to
everyone for free in order to stimulate content creation for the present
and future online 3D environments, and so that any artist out there with a
dream can fulfill their vision without finding themselves trapped by
budget limitations. This is particularly true if their vision includes
emerging 3D online worlds, where free and unrestricted communities of web
artists can collaborate on 3D projects and even establish new kinds of
communities the likes of which the world has never seen before, way beyond
simple chats in isolated 3D rooms or 3D islands.

Above all, trueSpace7.6 will empower you to create anything you dream up,
whether you want to make illustrations for National Geographic, design
products for Rolls-Royce, create buildings for Virtual Earth, make
advertising or training videos, architectural walkthroughs, innovative
video games, or animated films. All of these possibilities are now open to
you simply by downloading trueSpace7.6 and learning what its powerful 3D
authoring tools can do for you!

To download trueSpace7.6, visit the link below:
http://cart1.caligari.com/web/Truespacemainreg.aspx

Also, to aid in your learning process we have made all of our video
courses, previously $79 each, available at no charge, and you can download
those courses here.

Another good way to learn is to join our active user community on our
forums: (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/index.php).

At a time when other companies are removing their low cost products to
make it even tougher to get started in 3D, it gives us great pleasure to
enable all artists regardless of age or income to create 3D in whatever
field they dream of. We hope you enjoy your copy of trueSpace7.6.

trueSpace can Export .X files which Convert3D can load. So it *should* work!

Kitty Hello

Get a version and try for us, pleeeease :)

Sebastian

Hmm, could it be that the Convert3D tools doesn't work on Vista?
I exported the file as .X file and ran Convert3D but when I click "-> .ddd" nothing happens  :glare:

Edit: ok, if I export the .X file as text then it seems to work (you get to see a command line window) but I just can't find the converted file  O_O

Kitty Hello

samefilename.ddd

Please post the .x file, maybe?

Sorry for digging up an old post but just to let you know you can still get hold of Truespace 7.6 for free. It seems M$ bought out the company & product then dumped it  :D.

If you fancy a free 3d Modeler with some quite powerful features then you can download it from here http://download.cnet.com/TrueSpace/3000-6677_4-10187286.html

It took me a while to track down the documentation download but that can be found here http://www.mediafire.com/?tyfy9cwzrcs1tyl

Be warned though that if you are used to standard windows apps the UI of this quite a bit different  :O, I remember it from my Amiga days so it's not so odd for me.

uhmm TrueSpace I touch a bit when I start in the 3D World, I remenber look it amount of times in 3d Magazines... but I don't know because this soft don't works...

It's a good and nice tool, whitout too much comercial use, but can do very nice things... I don't understand too much the interface... I will take a look...

But don't worry this soft I think will always free, I rebember make a lot fo time this soft it's free...

Really I think it's more powerfully and easy to use Blender...

PS: LW or C4D :P

I don't really get on with Blender but that's no fault of the program, just me not really trying to learn it properly. Same can be said of Lightwave for a lot of people as it's UI along with it's Modeler/Layout being separate programs is not everyone's "cup of tea" so to speak  :D.

I started playing with 3D programs back in the Amiga days where basically anything goes with regards to the UI & have been a C4D & LW user since then. Other programs I used back then on the Amiga where DKBTrace (Predecessor of POV-RAY I think), Truespace, Turbosilver, Imagine, Real3D, Sculpt3D (or was is Sculpt4D  ;/) plus some others who's names escape me at the moment.

I'm not 100% sure but think some of those predate 3DStudio on the PC, if not you could probably buy most of them & an Amiga while still having some spare cash over the cost of 3DStudio (let alone the cost of a decent PC to run it).

sculp4d was it...I remember a demo of a walking knight, flying armour and so on...

I did use caligary 1 and 2, they were nice but didn´t support animation back them.
Had to do frame by frame :puke: (edit: they did have a wonderfull UI back them, best of all)

LW is easy to teach/learn, so that is my current choice, gotta have assistants going right?! :P
Blender is a bit hard on the interface.

@fuzzy, no 3DS Max really don't needs a huge machine, I have in paralell destopks only one core, and 4 ram.. for all windows, and runs fine... and my hard work machine as from 8 or 9 years ago a quad core whit 8Gb, annd runs fine. any 400€ or less can use 3ds Max, rebember you can chose betwen opengl and directX, but whit the last Driver specific not need greater machine...

It's the interfce a real shit, yes, for a newbie more than this... but I begin whit 3ds max, and I continue using at today, better Cinema more easy, mores estable more cheaper more more more...  =D =D

erico

Cinema 4d is great!

I used 3ds when it was only 3d studio, no max :P
It had about 4 or 5 modules, each for one thing: planar drawing, extrusion, textures, anim, scene jeje, is was funky, but I manage a little short movie on that ancient tool.

mentalthink

I beggin whit 3ds Studio R4, really I don't understand nothing in this soft... only I know do balls, elipses, and the wine glass  :D :D .

Sorry Mentalthink I was referring to 3DStudio in the DOS days before 3DSMax, 386 Cpu's with Co-processors & 4MB ram (16MB if you was rich  :D) 80-120MB HD's etc. We had 3DStudio where I used to work before moving to Catia & the pc's where about £4-5000, IBM PS/2 Model 80's i think some where

Lee

My fault for not making it clear what version I was talking about.

Buff in these days the 3D was the hell, I rebember I start whit an AMD K6, and really I think all the time a I wasted wainting for a shit renders... a lot of hours... but in Amiga or in any Computer in those times was horrible...

I think only from a 6 years ago + o - and now whit the Graphics using like a "CPU's" the times are very short... but no from too much time... the 3D some years ago, only was possible for great studios , today any guy in his home can do Hollywood FX + o -, if you have knoledeges, but before was impossible, in fact I look a TV program make some time about Industrial Ligth and Magic, and they say this... now they are losing a lot of money because the poeple don't need computers like Silicon Graphics, or graphics cards, when this costs about 3000 $, a simple machine of 1200€ can do excellent things... and a little Studio can do very espectacular things whit "simple" computers, and well, 3D every time it's more easy to do, more tools and more greater softwares, but now each guy have his rol into the  soft, the animator, texturizer, lighter etc...

Don't care about confusing, I'm sure I confise a lot of people whit my "english" pachanguero  :D :D  :booze: :booze:
