I recently got a new Dell desktop (Dell Studio XPS 7100 with an AMD Phenom-something, 6Gb RAM, ATI HD Radeon 5770, running Windows 64-bit) to replace my aging Dell notebook who's graphics chip was getting flakier by the minute. I'm still amazed by the speed difference between the two. Just for a laugh I tried to run my old GLB project Star Pilot and got 500FPS. I think I'll have to rewrite it to use timer based movement as was suggested by Mr TA Toad some time back.
Been wondering for a while now whether the issues I had with my netbook were more to do with either the design of the graphics chip, or Intels drivers. I need to check and see if they've released an updated driver yet. Not holding my breath. Pity, I really would like to develop for the Intel app store if it hasn't gone belly up yet. Health situation is gradually picking up again after being dire since March, so wouldn't mind attempting to get back into programming again. We shall see. There's a lot happening in our household now and 'Real Life (TM)' has a habit of getting in the way.
