Hi Guys
I am planning to go to Retro Revival in UK this May.
Any other GLB users going? If so might get to say hi!
https://www.revivalretroevents.co.uk/ (https://www.revivalretroevents.co.uk/)
Im have no plans.
Howover im have just read a Spectrum Next game im do some music for, is been showed there as well (Baggers in Space). Its a mix of JetPac, Hero and Cybernoid.
Cool - I will check it out when I'm there. =D
Unfortunately not, maybe one day though. :doubt:
Have a good one! :booze:
im is from Denmark and allready used much of vaccation money, but have a nice day there.
Thanks, looking forward to it...some good talks etc on too... John Romero is speaking along with lots of other game dev celebs.
Its look like its been a 4 level demo a With Baggers in Space (im is currectly looking into a Jungle tune those time) and a 4 level demo with Warhawk (where im tweeked the Atari tune to been used 6 channels in the title tune). There is various other next game.
Both is from Micheal Ware, which also did the original C64 game.
Both?
Isnt Baggers in Space by Jim Bagley? I met them both and they were chatting a lat and seem quite matey...so maybe Michael Ware is helping on the Baggers title too.
im ask Micheal Ware about.....
Its Micheal Ware that code the main game, but many codebase and help is from Jim, so its a joint here (both is credited as coder). But the engine have been improvede since very much by Micheal. originally BIS was originally a little techincal jetpac demo, only for me (so im could look on code and turns into Space Taxi), but instead its expanded to been a commercial game.
But im do admit, im love the game and love the controls, and did have some improve since the party. Include a nice Level Complete screen.
If you also completed the game. The ending music was from Space Taxi, hehe. Im did a lots of Space Taxi tunes for fun.
Also do you wonder, which person you playing in this game? Of course, its Jim him self :D.
Both guys are really sound! I voted for both games to win the Indie Comp at Revival but Tanglewood won.
they are do really happy with the 4th general place (as well 3nd for the retro one) they got for BIS :-).
Today im did found a crash in it, and that should just got fixed. When a game crash (should newer been happens of course), its can look something like this one. Even Micheal Ware posted that screen in the Spectrum Next facebook group....
yes, its shown (C)1982 here. The top score panel is of course some Layer 2 graphics, which got corrupted.
And yes, they have both been coders since the very old days. Jim is even one of the inverter of Spectrum Next.
I know - Jim is a legend in Speccy world.
Great stuff! I might do a Next game at some stage...will see.
I backed the kickstarter and have a nice shiny full keyboard ZX Next coming to me soon :) :booze:
Also, https://twitter.com/Spitoufs/status/989873862493040647 (https://twitter.com/Spitoufs/status/989873862493040647)
tweet mention for you with regards to BIS.
Its lobo, the graphican for this game as well Warhawk (and Poweup elevation). :-), and me behind the music (created in a PC application, named Vortex).
im finally just got my Spectrum Next board (the dev board only) and is search for casing. its a real joy to play Bagger in Space on the real machine with a classic joystick (still yet to play Warhawk).
Its neat the Spectrum Next have 2 atari style ports and both classic and Next games works with a unmodificed c64 joystick.
I have always had faith in the team behind the project. At least the brazilian guy involved... he is a genious. I really wish I'd be able to get a board too but I will have to wait further. Thanks for sharing the experience.
the cased Spectrum Next units have been delayed recently, due plastic issues. They are on back in the track. Im have the barebone Spectrum Next one, played with a normal C64 joystick with it (etc played a Dizzy game, and the joystick nicely works).
The machine also does support classic games and can even boot into 48 as well 128k modes (include in overclocked modes). Its first time im do own such a machine.
I have a full keyboard version ordered ... so still waiting on mine!
they did have some plastic company issue for some month ago, which got delayed this project. They have got a another company to do the plastic one. They are back on track and is gonna finalize it.
The board its self is combatible with the original ZX Case, but require some case mod to it throught.
Me one is a 1750kb ram one im have.
Also you do NOT need to get a modifec a C64 joystick on this spectrum. the original C64 joysticks works out of the box, include classic games (im do only tried some dizzy games). You should join the forum on the Facebook.
Baggers in Space is begin to take form and only missing the final levels. There is 16 levels with own graphics, theme and music, so its contain about over a hour music in the game as well.
Here is a bit older version of the game (the intro have changed a little bit as well some new graphics since that):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ik1vvs56i6bzjwn/Baggers%20in%20Space%20-%20Level%205.mp4?dl=0
The game is by Jim Bagley, Micheal Ware, Lobo and Me.
Congrats!!! Looks fab!
I played it at Revival - Good control feel :)
he thanks, the intro has been been even better, when the rocket smash into various items. We do have plans to do physical release of the game on a sd card. The game can fit into the standard memory of the Spectrum Next (768kb), which require a lots of compression to such a big game.
Really nice, Jetpac + a flipscreen arcade adventure.
as well H.E.R.O. (TNT's idea came from that game). And yes, this game started as a little JetPac demo, which became much much more. Im guess all 768kb work ram Spectrum Next have is quite filled and well used.
Its also a fun game to playtest levels.
