Looking for a (low) job at UK

My brother is in London looking for a job.

He speak basic english, so he just want to find a work where he dont really need to speak a lot. Something like "kitchen porter" (is correct?) while he is learning english.

He is electrician and studied electronics, but he is really a man-for-all. He is very good with manual jobs (I am the software guy, he is the hardware one): electrician, electronics, builder... anything will do.

If you know some job for him, we will be very gratefull. I don't know if he could take a job outside London City, as his girlfriend is there...

To carry out any electrical work in the UK you need to be certified nowadays, so his main profession won't be legal - unless he works on a production line of some sort, with full training. He could get lots of other jobs in and around London though, including portering, although I suspect that still needs a fair level of English.
I came. I saw. I played.

so that limits his outlooks to flipping burgers?

ampos

Due to his level of english, yes, but it doesnt matter. While he is learning "real" english, any work is wellcomed.

The idea is to work to earn some money.

There are plenty of jobs available, but they will be menial and low paid. :(
But, he will learn English and he will have work. :)

Here, low paid jobs are getting lower and lower paid jobs these days. Many companies "quit" and then restart with a new company name, employing the very same people for less money, less holidays, ...

I really hope he gets a fair offer.

If not, he could start his own business and teach Spain. :P

Hmm. Our newish multi-million pound computer room in the middle of our offices was done by a load of builders who as far as I know pretty much spoke no English. At the canteen every day they tended to point at stuff and talk in mysterious dialects and gave the impression of knowing no English when paying for stuff.

So I'm guessing there is jobs out there but they are pretty manual if you don't know English. My ex-brother in law worked as a dishwasher for instance years ago, even though he could speak English (was northern though so took a while to understand him ;) ).

I guess it may also depend on your carisma, you can find some small jobs if you are associated somehow to an university.
While in the USA, a log time ago, I did some load unload, cut trees´chunks, paint fences sort of work for friends and their parents once in a while.
For being friendly related, the money was always good.

good luck around there,

one hint I would give you, is to look for exchange programs and try to be of any help to spanish students coming aboard.
It won´t pay you loads of money and sometimes none, but you get kind of free flight and get to know a lot of people(new friendship is the most important thing).

Try YFU for example, it helps a lot if you already know someone there who can give indications.
again, best of luck,
I wish I just could do the same... ;)

I had a Columbian friend who made a very good living teaching Spanish, she just advertised in the local papers and seemed to get plenty work.

Well your fried it´s a guy whit a lot of luck.

The date in Spain people don´t works is this... 21.29%, i think we have the 50% of no works in all U.E, now the government cut all the public services they want, but they have a salary like minimun 4000€ (About 5300$), the maximun I don´t know, TV news only are lies... and only confusing to the population.

In fact in Spain have a lot of people working, but in example, now your boss have a lot of rigth for put in the street, every day have about 200 "deshaucios" ( get out people from thet houses using policial force), and the good it´s... well I put in the *love* street, but you have to pay the house. How?¿... I don´t know.

While all the politics only make a thiing , steal us, I speak of alls (if something spanish read this, I don´t be PP pr Psoe or elseone, 15M movement not too.)

This idiots only want revome us rigth, for his how benefit.

Sorry, but I´m realy burned whit this theme, excuseme I kidnnaped too much the post.

Yes, I see really bad times coming, and it's just the tip of the iceberg. Today Germans politics "voted" for another rescue screen for Greece. I don't blame it on the Greek people, because we (Germans) did a lot wrong like:
-Drop customs for European countries
->Greece can buy cars from Germany cheaper than before -> Greek car economy dies
-Give Greece credits being aware they won't be able to pay them back
->The ones who give credits are not the ones who pay for the non-payback, now!
-nothing learned from history - we give them even more money and "hope" they will be able to pay back

No way! They won't pay it back. Their economy is totally dead and it's because of our almost colony-style foreign politics.

I see many people given the sack because a company quit. Then the very same company rises as a new company with a new name and re-employ the very same people - for even less money/holidays, this time.

You hardly get a non-time-limited contract these day. It's totally insane.

I started growing potatoes in my backyard now. (No kidding) Things will radically change within the next few years.

It's a scary world we're living in politically and financially. And that's without including the religious zealots who constantly threaten the peace and well-being of complete innocents.
