Title: GameStick anyone commented nothing about this console?¿
Post by: mentalthink on 2013-Sep-18
This seems another alternative to OUYA ... Gamestick, it's like a USB for TV, but seems have very good sells.
I read in the develop web, don't says too much, but I see when you send a game can be Html5, perhaps this works without problem with the Html5 of GLBasic

The good things it's very cheap, I think more than OUYA, and the gamepad seems have more quality..

The aspect I think looking better than OUYA.

Sdk to the seen more closed, and they never went back to me, so need a support ticket, sdk with ouya is much more open.

The console is android based. So HTML 5 is the web interface to show the games. C++ is supported, and hence glbasic support that too.

The gamecontroller seen is allready supported in the GameController.java trought the remapping (alternative im just need the keyevents codes for auto remap) and they uses another internt appstore.

Pretty same thing as OUYA in the end.

im  found it here:
http://gamestick.tv/dev/

Howover documentation is a bit sparse, where OUYA have integrated it much better and easier to understand. Im need the console before im can integrate the java code required in the storekit as well the controllers.

The controller its should would been pretty very easy to been implemented (nearly allready done). Im just need the keyevents used, name of it, and then implented the keyscans so its can been auto remapped. By now its supported allready trought manual remap.

I think I wait a while for buy a OUYA, if you do it yet the hard work, and I don't have too much sckills of C++, I think the best option for now it's OUYA, I ear the next year appears another versión, I have a little of fear, buy another device and can't do nothing... I waste money in 3 devices, andriod runs more slow than a turtle, PalmPre (extrange succes, I think Apple put the hand over) , and Win CE , well this for Arduino and BT probes runs fine...

About OUYA a ear something runs bad, the WIFI I read you have to put the console for the bottom part to the top for running fine the gamepad, seems have a lot of lack sometimes, you have this problem?¿...

I'm have did all work for ouya and is now supported by glbasic, dispite you need sdk upgrade as well using androidextras. Most boilerplate code is in java, not c++.

Yes 1080p was quite slow for both my games, but did not have issue with 720p, which android extras does that automatic now.

I'm think gamestick might have same issues as I'm did had for ouya. So all works to support it is all java.

I'm hope all works by me and fivesprites got implemented bt next v11b.

its easy to support it really, im just need the console first for testing. By now im do not have a planning, mostly due the OUYA is a pretty fine console.

Howover if im got that one, im thinks its only few hours that take to support GameStick. That due the most work is allready done, so port from OUYA to GameSticks should been easy in the end.

The gamestick is a no brainer at all. Im just need the KeyEvent codes and the GameStick controller name. For the inapp, its mostly some kind of different calls, but same thing really.

Im do have to see how Gernot will officieal supports OUYA first, which would do the rest easier.
