As an Amstraddict myself, all I can say is... WOW!!

Why weren't the commercial programmers using the power of CPC properly back in the day?
I came. I saw. I played.

More of a c64 man myself, however, that is still a very nice demo.  The things that they are doing with 8 bit machines now (same with the c64).  Wish we had discovered that back in the day, although, I cant remember any c64 assembler whatsoever any more :(

I cant say that I was that good then  =D

Loved the CPC, my first real computer.

The CPC memory layout was apparently a bit of a pain to deal with, if I remember correctly.

I used to pour scorn on CPC users, being a fan on the C64, but I must admit its doubtful that the latter machine would be able to handle the stuff that was in the demo...  :(

The memory layout was quite simple, lower part, ROM, top of memory was screen memory. Nibbles were used for screen mapping. Quite simple. The screen was pretty flexible, you could split the screen, resolution wise or just change the pallete at a specific scanline you squeeze more colours on the screen. A lot of what you see in the demo is using the Z80 like a blitter, locating the stack onto screen memory and pushing data onto it like mad, very fast, an old ZX Spectrum hack I believe. You could have borderless full screen raster bars if you pushed the machine, a nice looking effect, which I was surprised I did not see on the demo... Otherwise a lovely demo, with lots of obvious love poured over the old machine.

Or maybe it's not :)

Anyway ... both are cool in their own ways.

That's such as impressive demo so much that it wasn't generally realised until now.  :good:
I wonder if Lord Sugar has seen the video.  :P

Would be a bit late if he has :)

CPC relic here too! :D

Programmed on the Amstrad CPC well into the mid-90's, ran a PD Library most of my 8-bit programming, to say I don't miss my little CPC is an absolute lie!

Brilliant!  Thanks for sharing that.  I still love my Amstrad CPC (6128).  Well would if I had one still.  Was my first introduction to programming.  Still have some of my best programming memories on that.  So much so that a MUD server I was making for laughs actually had an Amstrad CPC-like client to go with it.  Hmm wonder if I've still got the source to that.  Should finish one of my GLB projects one of these days...

Hehe nice, I did raster bars in the border on the Speccy but that's about it, this is awesome for a machine of its era. Pity its got a bloody AY/YM sound chip though.

That AY/YM soundchip was very capable and I have many fond memories of excellent music on the CPC.

Best, Monty On The Run tune version, was on the CPC, even better than the C64 version IMHO.
